Corporate jobs in the oil industry?
Does anybody know anyone who works in (or otherwise has knowledge in) Big Oil or their support companies? I would assume there are quite a few helicopter opportunities there, but what about fixed wing?
Having left the maritime industry, I can say that if you were lucky enough to get on an oil rig resupply or service vessel, in a company like SuperMaritime Group, your salary as a seaman could be TRIPLE what it would be in regular coastal or container operation. Average starting salary for a Third Mate (the first stop as a deck officer) in a typical operation... $55-$70K. On contract with an oil company... as much as $180K. And as your rank rises to Captain... so does your pay. RAPIDLY.
So I was wondering if flying jobs incorporated the same kind of ridiculous salaries. Or has Big Oil learned about us pilots and say "Oh, you want to fly for us? The starting pay is $35,000 a year. SUCKER."?

That maybe true, but I doubt it. G550 and Global jobs are paid 150K+ a year and demand is such, they wouldn't have anyone paying peanuts. I've been to a couple of oil depts and they pretty prosperous. Yes, that includes the employees.
