Come on guys. While we all hate, and I mean hate, scabs, this kid should not pay for his father's sins. The kid wasn't even born when this happened. He is in this predicament because of him and should not pay a price.

I do not think you should use your father's name as a springboard to a job, however. Use your name/reputation instead and do lots of volunteer Union work after you get hired (and vote no a lot).

P.S. I hope you're not a Jr.

You are not aware of our relationship, and you are NOT allowed to make assumptions. I've worked hard to get where I am. I know why you despise scabs, and I can understand why you'll never forgive them, but there is no reason why you should hold a grudge against people like me simply by association.
I'm with him. I have to admit that if a son used a scab as a reference I would vote no given the opportunity. Basically the kid is oblivious, doesn't think scabbing matters, or is eager to follow in Dad's footsteps.

But I wouldn't hold the sins of the father against the son if the son didn't associate himself professionally with the scab...even if I knew who his dad was.

Default They look it up! Scab lists....

I have been jump seating hundreds of times in my career on UAL and a lot of Captains have looked up me and any other JS'er to see if I we were scabs.... ANYWHERE. They keep a list in the FB. I believe the chances you will be looked up if you get an interview are better than even... I would take the name off my list. It can't hurt you to take it off (IMO) but possibly by leaving it on! Why risk it!

Update! So I discussed these issues with someone high up at ALPA who knows the hiring process at 2 of the legacies. They said to leave the recommendation on there and those doing the interview do not get to see the recommendations. It's mostly for HR and point scoring. They were impressed that I was concerned about the issue and offered direct help with the interview process. Don't take this to the bank though, although the source is very credible. Hope this helps others who have a similar situation.
