Do both... see if you can go part time at the tech job or job share or go half time and fly your a$$ off to get that CFI...

Like others have said... if you still have the burn by time you start teaching, then you may make a better informed choice.

That's the way I did it years ago, it worked out pretty darn well for me.

Do what you love and you will love what you do!

Great advice.- I left my old job @65K /yr at 35 years old.I fly for a major now. Took 6 years. Go for it - you have a ton of life left to live. Good luck

What? It's a job, so no, you shouldn't be willing to do it for free, it's how you feed your family.

Make a difference. That'd be nice, but feeding your family (ie taking care of yourself should come first). Sorry, but I definitely don't care if I "make a difference" as an airline pilot, nor did I even factor that in to my decision matrix when I decided to do this.

The only difficult part of being a pilot is paying for it. The venture wont be profitable for a long time. This doesnt matter for rich kids but is problematic when you have to fund it and have enough left over for food.

Having work experience outside of aviation will give you a better perspective and leave you less vulnerable to the "fear of starting over" tactics that the airlines use to force through pay and benefit cuts. I definitely think being a bit more mature than the guy who enters the commercial pilot ranks at 23 is a good thing.

You can go self paced at ATP while working and still get it done relatively quick. I know a few guys who did that, worked for them.
