If you're military, ACMI, corp/frac, or regional commuting with min days off doesn't matter. Not being home much, not enjoying half the month off at a legacy which is EASY despite what the complainers say that have ZERO perspective, it's not really "extra time off".

It's simply what precious little time you have NOW. And you'll NEVER get it back......

FWIW I was hired by Delta with no "current" volunteer time. I put down anything I've done back to community theatre in high school. I was a regional FO at the time. My wife works full time and we have two young children. At least in Delta's case they recognize and value commitment to family and parenthood as paramount. I'd even say they seem to value that more highly than volunteer time. When asked I explained how my family was the most important thing in the world and especially while our kids where young it was important to me to be there as much as I possibly could, as well as to help my wife be able to her job successfully. I mentioned that when the kids are a little older we hope to do volunteer work as a family. Habitat For Humanity is one I mentioned which of course Delta supports but is also true because I have a lot of building background. So I think they got the message that I have the desire to do altruistic things but prioritize my time as father and husband highest of all.

I think if you're single, have a sweet schedule, no kids or kids are grown and out of the house and with your 20 days a month off and every weekend you've never found time to give even a little back to the community, I think that's where somebody may run into a problem.

AS IT SHOULD BE.

The crux of that is, there's NO WHERE ON THE APP to explain it as such.

Just like for the people that may have been working FULL TIME in college and GPA suffered, or it took more than (insert years here) to graduate.

ALL THEY CAN SEE is that there was an employment coincident with the college time period. There ISN'T a block/space (IIRC) to explain how much you worked while in college, etc.

Yes, unfortunately you have to make it to the interview to get the opportunity to tell your story. I'm fortunate that Endeavor has a garaunteed interview program that helped me out there.

"These are all things that would make us want to have you on our team", she said. Of course, I'm thinking "Great!"

Then she asks me, "what have you done to volunteer? I see no volunteer activities on your resume."

There was an ackward pause on my part, then she said, "You see that gentleman over there? He volunteers at the United Way. And that gentleman...he volunteers his free time at Habitat for Humanity. And that captain..." She kept rambling.

Of course what I wanted to say and what I did say we're two different things...

"If you're looking for someone to show up on time, work hard, and not complain, I'm your guy. If you're looking for someone to build playgrounds for orphans on their time off, maybe this isn't the place for me."

And "thank you for your time."

Good Post !..If I'm on the outside looking in because I have no time to
volunteer then so be it ..I will live with
the decision..Its such bulll**** ..I'm not
getting an advanced degree either because some HR puke saids my resume is vanilla ..

Perfect - so that's one less person I have to worry about getting a job.

Bottom line, a degree simply shows initiative for self learning. Why would;t an airline or HR rep find that desirable. In addition, a degree is earned after some considerable time and effort - which means typically a more responsible individual.

Ha! Give me a flipping break! Have you seen most of the entitled 25 year old HR idiots that ask the most ridiculous interview questions these days? The ones who's daddy paid their way through college getting wasted counting cieling tiles? It's a total sham. All you clowns who think otherwise are only saying so because you feel like a fool for following the herd. College degree means jack shinola in this profession. Anyone with one or multiple type ratings has already proven they can do this job, over and over again. These days we are rarely retraining someone from round dials to glass so that too is a ridiculous excuse. So many people need to get over themselves. And seriously, if I hear of another story of someone saving kittens from the local homeless shelter on their days off while feeding a family of 4....

I once shaved off my back hair and mended it into a sweater for a child I saw shivering on the streets. Top that!

I agree though. Why college is the barometer to prove you can "see things through" or whatever is beyond me. Now college campuses are full of libtard kids protesting this and that and seeking out "safe zones."
