Moved to base but now family home sick
Good Day
I wasn't sure if this would fit here or not. I'm a native Houstonian and started my 121 career commuting from Houston to Minneapolis. I did this commute for about 6 months before we decided to relocate to Minneapolis for better schedule. I'm now holding a great schedule but now my wife is missing our family real bad. She is very close to them and visiting this weekend has reminded us of that. We have two little ones too. I haven't discussed this with any other friends and family because most don't seem to understand the job setup of an airline pilot.I can remember flying with a few guys that had relocated to base and then moved back home and commuter again. Anyone ever have a similar predicament?
Thank k you.

That's the beauty of this job, you have the option to live nearly anywhere...at a cost to your QOL though. To me, life is too short to live somewhere you don't want to live. We did it for 12 years in the Air Force, and I won't do it again. I've embraced and accepted the commute, and the family is happy.
With that said I know plenty of people who don't care where they live and move to wherever they're based. I'm jealous of that attitude, but just can't do it.
You're hopefully in a short term job at a regional and can get picked up by UAL, SWA or even AA in a few years.

With DAL at MSP?? If so maybe transfer somewhere with a closer commute? It may take a while to sort out. Once the young'uns get to the midlin grades it's more of an upset to move.
We are native to the upper Midwest, but I've lived all over. I can see how someone used to the South(family there too) may not transition well to live up 'Nor't'.

We visited Houston for a few days and that started this whole thing. Now that we are back she starts talking about different places in Minneapolis we can start looking to buy, so j don't know. Maybe it was just her being a woman, no offense to any women, but you get the idea.
