Default UPS scope clause!?

There is a much talk about higher salaries for UPS pilots (which I have no problem with, UPS can afford it and the pilots deserve it), but nobody is talking about scope!

I guess so far in my job it really hasn't be a concern for me. I was wondering what the Pilots at UPS is asking for and what their concerns are!

Thx,

The problem is simple. It all depends on which UPS shows up for negotiations. Sometimes, scope is not an issue because they feel that it would be crazy to allow "unsafe" chinese carriers to fly the freight. Other times, they show their teeth and posture themselves. Scope is vitally important. If others fly OUR freight, then there isn't any job protection. They are simply playing things off against the other. Ie. we will give you big pay, but scope.....no. Scope is number 1, trust me, but it seems that retirement is a very, very close second.

ALPA and the IPA are at opposite ends of the union spectrum in terms of effectiveness, integrity, and goals. We are united and just because you don't hear about issues on this board or FI does not mean they are not being discussed. China is the ticket for my professional security and my children's future. After the 08 Olympics thier economy will really start to take off and it is foreseeable for UPS to double profits in 5-10 years. We could double our pilot force in 5-7 years based on China/India growth alone. Scope is the #1 issue and the retirement issue is not even a close second.

Brown,

"unsafe" Chinese Carriers to fly the freight? I suppose you are talking about the Flight for Dell thru supply chain solutions? I have a question, Why did Capt. Nicholson publicly announce in the union press conference that UPS was NOT outsourcing IPA work? I also want to know if it isn't ATLAS crews flying that flight for China Airlines since China Airlines is a customer of ATLAS. I also want to know why you have an issue with that flight since China and UPS has opened up a whole lot of work to IPA crews within the Pac Rim.

I never said that I have a problem with one lowsy flight into MEM. My concern is for the future. There are so many chinese carriers out there and there will be many more to come. They will approach UPS and offer something very low to fly our freight. Without Scope, this will happen. Plus that flight is China Airlines and not Atlas.

It's nashville not memphis. Get your info. right. And ALL flights are important! And Pay and Scheduling is Number 2 for me. 250 an hour minimum. Or I Vote NO again.

Thanks guys for the response. Nash, isn't 250 min a lil steep? I heard that 2 Chinese Cargo carriers have applied for flights to ANC, ORD, and DFW. FYI Brown.

$250.00 and hour??? Thats shooting kinda low, Were getting the 747-400 and the A380. Talk about scope, that A380 can do the job of two aircraft at one setting. UPS wants one pay scale, I say make them pay for the A380 pay scale. My min price is sitting around $300.00 and hour or higher. It was a little lower before Peak came and went, but it will keep going up as long as these Box Heads (soyouthink and company) keep delaying the deal.

But then again, I say, go ahead, delay, Ive got 20 more years and I my price keeps getting larger... otherwise, its a NO!!!!!

Oh-yeah, dont worry, I havent forget about the back pay either...

SOYOUTHINK, Go ahead, respond with something stupid just to add fuel to the fire, your comments mean nothing to me, because your just a **** stick anyway...

BBDC8,

The Menlo debacle, the new super widebodies, and the work culture for 20 more years alone make me demand a lot out of this contract, too. Maybe not $300.00 an hour, but more like $280 {end of contract}.

One of the reasons this contract isn't settled is that ups is having trouble facing up to our big money demands and even simple creature comfort requests like sort QOL that's on par with Fed Ex. It's going to take some time, but I feel confident we'll get 95% of what we need to move forward.

Soyathink, keep talking. Your pay will go up as well once this contract is settled, and you can then thank our tough negotiators and Tom N. for your blowout W-2's.
