Default World Airways

I have an interview coming up soon at World.

From what I've been able to find out seems like a decent place. (I know that is relative.)

I have not been able to find any post in regards to the history of furloughs there. Have there been any as of late?

How does the home basing thing work? The question I have is can one change it without changing their official home of record? (I travel around and have an official address in SD but don't really live there. I currently commute from wherever I am.)

Oh, and anyone recently interview there?

Thanks!

I'll let someone else comment on the furloughs - I'm not sure when the last one was. I have been at World less than a year. I believe that they used to have furloughs when they were doing a lot of Hajj flying which is obviously very seasonal.

Home basing is basically any airport served by two carriers with a reasonable number of flights. Our single basing LOA allows home basing anywhere in the lower 48 or in Canada within 100 miles of the US border. You can change it each month if you want - you have to let them know no later than the 27th of the month for the following month (or 5 days before you are available on reserve).

I interviewed about a year ago - anything I know about the interview process is the same as you can find by searching on here.

The interview gouge was good as of January, No reason to think it has changed since then, or will change anytime soon. The folks interviewing are very comfortable with their process, and you will spend several days with them. Just be yourself, they will either like you or they won't.

We have a class that just started for the MD-11, a DC-10 class starting in April, After that maybe some more MD-11 folks?? The trend here seems to be steady measured hiring, just the way it should be.

One sad note, the last DAL MD-11 left for UPS last week, but the flip side is that the long awaited 747-400 (N740WA) arrives on property this week from BCF mod, with the next one due in fall.

Thanks for the info.

What was the Hajj flying?

WorldDC10, how have you found World so far. You liking it?

I'm excited about the opportunity. Hope things work out.

There has been 1 furlough in the 12 years I have been here and it lasted maybe 30 days and affected a very small number. We quit doing the haj about 7 years ago. I think the furloughs were fairly regular 15 years ago but not since then.

Any news on PFE hiring? I'm retiring from the Navy in a few months and have a lot of flying left in me. I met one of the World crews in Bahrain a few weeks ago and was told that they may be hiring some soon. I have a resume in with World now and the FE who was a former Captain spent some time talking to me and painted an optimistic chance. Anyone know a POC I could email or call? Thanks.

So far I'm loving it. I have been lucky with the trips - so far the longest I have been gone from home is about 10 days - so I am easing into the lifestyle. The crews have all been good to fly with and the flying is a lot different from flying for the regionals! The long layovers in various bars in Europe don't hurt either

What are the min times required at World Airways, and competitive? I went to their website but found no information on pilots, have they stop hiring for the time being?
