Default Getting to Cargo

Hi everyone, just a quick question or two, this one may even fit better in the "Time Building" threads... So my dad used to fly for a smaller cargo company that I believe was bought out by DHL a few years ago. They flew Navajos pretty much back and forth from Montana to Utah where we live. Problem is, I can't remember the company name at all. Vague description I know, but does anybody know who this might have been? Just sheer curiosity.

Also, I've been instructing for a year now, about 600TT w/350 instruction given. I know I'm the very low man on the totem at this point, but quite honestly flight instructing isn't what I had hoped it would be. Aviation is in my blood and that won't ever change but I think instructing has already lost its appeal to me. I'd rather pay for my own mistakes in the airplane, not when the student holds down the brakes on a short field and pops the tire and me, simply because I'm PIC, get to pay for it. The reason I put this in the cargo threads is that I am aspiring to fly pretty much anything cargo and was wondering if anybody knew of any other time builders to get me there, good places to get ME time, maybe even some life stories could help? Gracias all...

You're going to have one hell of a time finding anything right now without part 135 mins at the very least. There are a ton of guys on the street and it's hard to find one of the few openings.

Stick it out instructing, or find somewhere that your instructing will gain some quality (ME, Inst, X-C) time and be happy you're getting paid to fly.

Both UPS and FedEx use subcontractors to fly the single and twin turbo prop aircraft used to feed from the small cities to the larger pick up points. Some of these aircraft are big enough to need an First officer, you might try chasing these outfits down and sending an application ( poverty wages will be paid).

I understand your feelings for this - but get use to the idea of being held responsible for everything when you are the PIC. YOU are responsbile for whatever happens on that aircraft. I once got called on the carpet for my dash 4 blowing tires on the landing; I was the division lead. I was nearly taxiing off the runway by the time he landed. How was this my fault if I used the same reasoning that are are applying to your student. At least you were in the airplane with him! Imagine the ship's Captain who is relieved when his ship runs aground with qualified watchstanders at 0330 in the early am and he is fast asleep!

Sorry for the thread drift but felt that should be addressed if you are wanting to venture into professional aviation. Oh....and for the cargo or Part 121 guys out there - if this is not how it is in civvie flying then please let me know.

Now - back to the thread. Sorry - can't help you.

PIC is always responsible however the FO goes with the PIC for the rug dance/ck ride/violation, etc. The FO generally gets to kep the FO seat, the PIC may get to be an FO again.

Agreed - to be fair I'm sure my wayward wingman in this case ended up seeing the CO after he was done with me

Again it is going to be hard to find a 135 carrier based on your times. The normal mins are much higher.
