Default Closing Refinery in Alaska

Saw this article in the Anchorage News. Looks like the refinery which produces 80% of the jet fuel for Anchorage may be closing. That could get interesting.

I have a REALLY hard time believing that they LOST money in 2008. I'm sure our accounting friends on this forum could point out some ways that they can cook the books to show a loss in a year when oil companies worldwide posted RECORD profits...

I doubt they will close, they just wanted to get the state's attention and renegotiate the 30 cent "premium" that they pay for the state's share of North Slope production. It's all about money...... always is.

And they are trying to claim they are not gouging the Alaskan consumer. Just because we have some of the highest gas prices in the US and there is a price fixing investigation going on...

Get that "maverick" Sarah after them, by golly. She won't put up with any of those darn shenanigans.

It's probably just another company screaming wolf to get in line for the next round of bailouts.

From the article:

"...Flint Hills Resources says the refinery has lost money over the past year while the company considered whether to sell it, close up shop or invest in major upgrades to make it more profitable..."

Don't you have to be profitable, before you can become more profitable? Or, is that just some of that "fuzzy math" stuff?
