Ok, I here all of this rhetoric about how "WE NEED TO STOP FLYING CARRYOVER". How in the **ll do you do that if there are monthly lines with carryover built in them. If senior guys don't want these C.O. lines, then eventually some junior guy is going to be awarded it, whether he/she likes it or not. If all of us didn't bid c.o, someone is going to end up flying it, whether they like it or not. So, until the company eliminates carryover, which they won't because its not feasible, stop *****in about something that isn't going to happen! Spend your brain power on other problems we face with practical solutions!

What you can do if you have carryover, is to protect min days off into the next month. If you need to rebuild your line up to avg. BLG, then fine. That way there is more open time, more reserves get used, we need more pilots, it's harder for the company to say we are overstaffed. You're right, someone has to fly it-but it helps us collectively if the flying is spread around more. I think the intent of saying "stop flying carryover" is guys bidding carryover and then not protecting min days off to get paid more $$.

If 700 overmanned is an accurate # (not convinced it is) then it could immediately (with the stroke of a pen) be turned into 540 by eliminating carryover across the board. In addition the 250 guys/gals who just bid the 777 (naively in my opinion) will reduce that over manned # to 290 over the next 24 mos as the 777 hulls arrive. 190 is a very manageable #.
Very true. Carry over is the scheduling bonanza for as long as I can remember. Cut it off and 80-90% of the problem would be solved. Much bigger headed guys than me have been saying this for years. If you are stupid enough to bid the 777 with nothing in writing then you deserve everything you will get, and that is about all I have to say about that.

I "here" all the same thing but we need the union to force the company to minimize carry over and make an equitable solution to reduce a crewmembers BLG from one month to another if he bids it. We can't allow guys to continue to protect it. Some will have and the rest of us will suck hind tit. It will kill us if we continue in this way.
