At our carrier, we were being threatened with losing JS privileges because of this exact issue with the perceptions of some of the legacy JS coordinators. Took awhile to put out the perceptions that we were abusing JS for paid company travel. It was explained about our travel bank, etc. The other companies did not care and the JS coordinators stated that 'we' still benefited by boosting bank by JS when company was putting revenue money into company travel. HAve commuted, know all the arguments since we had this discussion of point/counterpoint. As Gunter stated: Perception =reality (which is unfortunate, but that IS reality)
Here was my originally slammed "ignorant" post. Await your response.
"I am with Gunter.
So if you deviate on same day, next flight or one earlier and pocket the money in your travel bank, no ethics problems? OK, Define how long a time from original paid ticket deviation before it is an issue for same trip/purpose. Just curious? Am sure Jet Blue pilots would be curious to an answer since there company originally was supposed to make coin on moving you from A-B, which because you deviated for same purpose, they now did it for no coin.
Just asking."
Flame away <g>, Your company, not mine to open up this can of worms. Mangements take notice of these boards.
Still with Gunter

It was not a flame. I was 99% sure but, I figured someone on here would have the no poop answer. I also figured that boycaptain wouldn't be able to resist a comment since he was the one telling me I was wrong and I wanted to know if I was.
It is my opinion that if I have deviated off my paring I become a free agent instantly. I get zero benefit from extra bank money. Once I'm off the hook with my company it's my time and my money then it is personal.
As I've said I told the ticket agent and the pilots that carried me exactly what I was doing and why.
Gunter may have an argument about some bean counters at other airlines not understanding our bank system (maybe you don't either). The pilots don't care, I've told multiple crews similar stories back when I commuted and zero gave a rats arse. They were helping a fellow pilot out and happy to do it 100% of them (and in 13 years of hardcore commuting we are talking about a lot of crews)
This thread has way out lived it's usefulness the point has been made. The only taboo I see is to jumpseat on a flight you hold a revenue ticket for. Past that if it makes your life better and there is a seat open it's OK.
In hind sight I should have called ALPA, I thought this might be quicker, we have some smart guys that read APC but, most of them don't post anymore and I'm starting to see why.
Thanks for the help I'm out.
