I hope there's more than a handful of us who agree with NightBusDriver, but after listening to three junior F/O's (two A300, one MD11) on the crew bus between the MEM terminal and the parking lot virtually orgasm over all the November open time, I'm not. I brought up that the company just landed us an opportunity to fix the 4a2b scenario in our laps, but one of the "I want it now" F/O's replied "well, I'm down over 20 grand this year, so I'm now out for me because the union isn't" .
I'm afraid the crack addicts are going to run us over on the way to the candy store...
Here's my answer to that situation. Let them know that if we get thru peak without any airplanes parked due to lack of crews, we will be in 4A2b for a long tiome. If they can make it thru the busiest time of year with limited crews they can surely make it thru till June or July, or till contract negotiations start. Then thye just throw us a bone and agree to come out as a contract bonus. All the while they have saved 50-60 million dollars on our backs. Can he make up what he will lose over the next 6-8 months in just Nov and Dec? It's purely economics. I agree with whoever said that this is just a program to help the company with their over manning situation.....
Don't harass, but do share the truth. If we can get folks to stop protecting carryover, actually use their vacation, avoid flying when sick and not take extra trips for draft (makeup too) it would expedite the exit.
Isn't that how we got the last contract?
The ball is now in our court.

You are missing LAG's whole point. He didn't complain about BOYCAPTAIN's situation...He complained about BOYCAPTAIN's gloating about his situation.
Well, I won't argue about BCs gloating from time to time. Like me, he came to FedEx when it wasn't the place to be and almost every person at FedEx (and not) was telling us "If I were your age I'd get out of here ASAP" I bet I've heard that hundreds of times. I'm glad I didn't listen.
But, what is good about BC is that he always takes what is given him and he takes whatever silver lining he can find and he focuses on it. Whatever the company is doing or where ever his wife makes him move he decides right there and then it's the best deal and he runs with it. He looks at the good tree and the forest is a blur.
I say this because with the company right now it might be a good strategy for a lot of us. Too many guys on this forum do just the opposite of BC and focus only on the bad deals we have. Money comes and goes and it will be back here soon .... Enjoy your time off. You can get rich next week.

The ball is in our court. The problem is that we are all playing different sports with that ball. The senior guys are playing a fast break style hoops game, with scores well into the 100's. The junior guys are playing soccer, lucky to even score an occaisional goal, where nil/nil is a reality. Some of us are happy playing a 4 run baseball game, and be home more often. I could go on but the point is, at this point we are all out for ourselves and it's sad. If we can't live on $100+K or 200+K, depending on where we sit, then shame on us.
Some of us are team players, some are not. I can hope others will fly their line and nothing else. Some will, some won't. I can control what I do, and I choose not to fly extra. If the company continues to draft to fill trips, at least it is costing them more.
I've been harping on the reduction of reserves for months now. They keep lowering the number. This month we have only 44 R lines in the MD MEM FO. I keep hoping we will hold the line, but it never seems to happen. I get tired of guys continuing to fly 120 hour lines (two pilots worth). But, in the end, all I can do is fly my line and nothing else.
In a way that's good news. When those guys get tired of 120 hr months things will change.
It will be a combination of factors. I can't tell you where the tipping point is but it is getting closer. You don't have to have everyone on one side of the seesaw to make it go the other way. A remarkably small number of folks can turn the tide.

And you are right! It kills me to keep sucking this up month after month and all I get is skinnier! These guys need to just say NO!
