I think your point is that UA was a good experience until it wasn't, correct?

I guess it has been the same at a lot of the airlines (legacy, regionals, cargo, etc). At Atlas, we've had furloughs as recently as 2 years ago. And we are just getting over the debacle of our ghost operation in the UK.

That said, the short to medium term looks to be good here. Long term? Ask me when we all turn 65 and retire...then we'll know if we made the right choices.

I wish you luck, unitedflyer, and others, looking for stable, semi-long-term employment.

That is one less person the guys that are interested in Atlas have to compete against.

There are plenty of guys here that are perfectly happy at their (our) lot in life...I don't make any apologies for flying at Atlas.

As I have said on the other thread, there are certainly better places (like FDX, UPA, and possibly SWA), but there are most definitely worse.

United flyer,

check out World. 65 hour minimum and 12 days off. Not bad, and really really cool flying as long as you are up for some excitement. Been here 4 years and think its a great job. Can't imagine flying to boring domestic stops all the time and the MD-11 will wake you up on final approach!

I'd give up on Atlas, I have. Despite having hired a few last year, UAL furloughee's have been discriminated against at Atlas. Drop me a PM and I'll give you the skinny if your interested.

No offense to any Atlas folks here, just have to call a spade a spade and keep some of us from developing unrealistic expectations. The scarlet letter "U" is very much alive.

I'm sorry to hear that...and kinda surprised, because we have quite a few furloughed United, USAir, etc. The only ones that I have heard are having trouble (not just at Atlas, but others that are hiring) are UPS furloughees. I guess employers are figuring that furloughees from UPS are likely gonna go back to their previous positions. Not so much for some of the other furloughees.

Perhaps I am rushing to judgment in making such claims. I know several furloughed folks at Atlas but I have not heard of any new ones this year. I can kinda understand Atlas, or any other employers side, why consider somebody who might return to their previous employer? They (HR departments) talk to each other during job fairs, so they know, roughly, when outfits might be recalling (which with UAL probably being in the next 12 months).

Sure, some people will return if recalled, but it locks the rest of us who were not fortunate to get hired earlier at Atlas or elsewhere out of the entire process. I know employers did the same thing during the post 9/11 downturn when I was on the street the first time.

Anyway, not trying to complain or throw mud, just want to warn my UAL brothers/sisters still looking for work, that based on my own experiences and a few others, Atlas appears to not be the place. I sincerely hope I am wrong.

I am curious, I read that the SW 4th year FO pay is about $102 per trip. How big is their guarantee to get them to $14k a month? $14k/102= 137 trips a month... No overtime?

I apologize if my numbers are incorrect, as I do not have access to an actual copy of the SW contract.

since ive been at atlas, have had 1 day, 3 day, 4 day, and longer trips. i have averaged 17 days at home the 1st 6 months.

in training u stay at residence iinn, in your own rrom. there is a free shuttle. u get tng pay and perdiem. starting in the fall it is planned for all pilots to have tablet with all pubs on it.

i met 2 ual double furloughees while in tng...they were in tng...that was last year.
