Hiring by the end of this year seems unlikely, doesn't it? I can't believe they can get every furloughee recalled and retrained before peak (would've had to start by now). If they hire one (non-mgt) pilot, they'd have to pay any furloughee their guarentee for doing what they're paying us nothing to do now.

Ups has been actively hiring but they are only recruiting future picket line crossers. Didn't wanna use the S word and be penalized by the moderator.

What the numbers don't tell.

B747 RSVA in ANC 0730-1929 local. Covers some China flights (most likely be delayed an hour waiting for a RSVA to report).More importantly covers all of the SDF bound flights. Next shift available would cause a 2 hour delay at least.

For the next few days there is ONE available. By Wed there is 2 or 3 but only one good beyond the weekend. Not quite enough days to cover a lot of trips on the B747. There is VAC, SIK, LTM, etc, so coverage isn't exactly how it seems. And there is also plenty of FQS's on the fleet.

So things usually get covered, for now !

end of the year???? They are already hiring.........nurps. As for the furloughed IPA pilots, well the IPA says UPS is adequately staffed.

Sarcasm On:

STOP SPREADING RUMORS!!!!

UPS is NOT hiring FQS staff or personnel, especially no one on furlough. Your rumors are only hurting the integrity and solidarity of the IPA!

When asked DIRECTLY about said individual:

That is unequivocally not true.

Sarcasm Off:

I am paraphrasing a quote from both BT and TK during the last ANC meeting. Yet here we are, 2 more FQS, one of which is a furloughee.

I stopped listening to those two long time ago. Don't even bother to attend any meetings those two attend. Just doing my job and paying my dues because I have too.

I see a lot of trashing the EB, by pilots who have been here only a very short time. A little perspective:

Miller would have never gone after the FQS positions, Nicholson neither. We finally have an EB that will stand up to the company after decades of a Billy Jack mentality (except that even BJ had his limits).

We've had years of system board deadlocks, and a constant fear of arbitration. Finally, we're seeing a lot of system board resolutions, because we will take issues all the way to arbitration.

So we lost the FQS issue, at least for now. The furlough probably was UPS's attempt to prevent accretion. And our block hours are down, because of the new wings at the worldport sort, bigger jets, etc. But only for now.

This has cost the company. They're playing games while FredEx is rolling in like a thunderstorm. They know this. Some subordinates know that not having 777s, right now, is a huge disadvantage. They also know that our current EB are not a bunch of pushovers. Also our next contract is going to be a very uphill battle for them. My prediction: we will reject the first TA.

So put yourself in the enemy's shoes, how would you play things?

As far as hiring, I can see it as a maybe. It takes them a while to set up a hiring dept: about 6-12 months. FWIW
