Do NOT let not having a sponsor deter you. It has been stated several times that guys/gals without sponsors, but with competitive qualifications will get a chance. Last word I heard was that about 10% of the slots were to go to people without sponsors under the current chief pilot.
I am proof of this. I had no sponsor, just two recs., and im a civilian RJ guy. I'm still humbled that I was called and fortunate enough to be offered a job. Do not think that not having a sponsor disqualifies you in any way!

Thanks to all for encouraging posts. May be I was just having a down day. No doubt will keep the hope up and update the profile in timely manner for that phone call.
Fwiw, it took me 10 years of applying before I ever got called for an interview. And that was with a sponsor. Long story short, I finally did get an interview and subsequently the job. If you really want this job, be persistent and keep your info updated. In my opinion, it's the best flying job in the country.

Well said. Persistence pays off. Took me 6+ years.
Get yourself ready (interview prep) and keep updating your profile.
My post was just in response to the original title of the post-REALISTIC min quals. I've heard the 10% # w/o sponsors get the call and in those 2 interview classes 50% didn't even have a sponsor which, a few yrs ago, would probably mean you didn't even get to the interview. Not trying to discourage anybody nor say that having heavy intl time makes you a better heavy intl pilot than a pointy nose guy, just stating the facts of a relatively small sample size in regards to the original post. I think if you have the basics- ATP, 1000 PIC Turbine, FE written, First class medical, etc., you always have a shot and you are a fool not to pay the $75 and at least try it. I'm also saying that if you really want to improve your chances, shake the weeds call some friends of your second cousin's, sister-in-law's, best friend's, next door neighbor and see if they know someone at FedEx, it will only improve your chances. If you've been in aviation any length of time, someone has told you at some point, "it's not what you know, it's who you know". That may hold some water at FedEx and other places.
FedEx dose not "admisister" any pre-hire medical exams anymore. The Company stopped doing that in about 1995, if I'm not mistaken.

My fellow interviewees and I were sent to Germantown to get a "1st class medical" screen after we were offered conditional employment last summer. We tried to get the doc to update all of our 1st class medicals, but he said he could not. Even though we all showed up with current medical paperwork, the company still sends you to their own doc for a look under the hood.
