Default Strongbags vs Luggageworks in the Cargo World

MOD: I understand moving my last post to the "Hangar Talk" section, but I really want to know how the Strongbag holds up in the world of cargo operations. The way our bags get treated is much different than how a flight attendant/corporate pilot/legacy pilot/etc gets their bags treated. Thanks.

Just wondering if anybody has been using the Strongbags in the cargo world. Thinking about getting the Strongbags Vortex 2 "Ocean Crosser." and just wondering how they hold up compared to the Luggage Works bags.

I know it's popular in the pilot world, but I'm not interested in the Costco bag. It seems they change their bags every few months, plus they have such a good return policy, I don't want to take advantage of them.

Costco expandable roller bag. $99, they replace it for free.

I've use purdy neat since they came out. It was time for a rebuild and noticed the other two guys on the crew had the same bag, it was Costco.

Been circling the world for a year with it, nothing wrong.

You guys flying cargo make so much money, why don't you buy all the bags you've mentioned, flight test them, and then return that which you don't like? Unless you treat your bags like one FedEx driver treats his deliveries, I'm sure you'll get plenty of good wear out of it.

I've got a Purdy Neat bag, it looks very similar to the strong Bag. I have 2 complaints about my bag ...

- Major issue: It's very durable metal frame makes it VERY HEAVY. It looks like major parts of the Strong bag are plastic (which might solve most of the weight issues ... looks like maybe the handle is plastic, that's been a weakness in other bags I've owned).

- Minor Issue: After several years of use, the foam padding on the pull handle is in bad shape. The foam padding seems to get damaged a little each time I have to check my bag. Do any of you APC'ers know a contact to get replacement pull handle padding?

call luggageworks....and get the canvas wrap that goes over the pad. it will make it last long time.

Or we could treat our bags the way the airlines treat our bags and just loose them...

I think Hockey Tape would work great. I have been using Hockey Tape on some of my handles that are uncomfortable and/or damaged, and it protects them really well. There are all sorts of colors, not just black...it is very tough!

I bought a LuggageWorks 26" from stopoverstore.com this time last year (and claimed it on my taxes!).

Damn thing is too heavy (which i knew when I ordered it)...but sturdy. Do not get this unless it has a metal frame. the plastic ones do not last, and will cause you to get it fixed more often than the metal ones.

I also used the costco bag for about 8 years (or whenever they first came out) without ANY problems. They are sturdy also but much lighter, and expandable...so, you can buy all the rubber dog $hit from HKG or PVG!!

I think the better choice for me would have been the smaller PNT/LW bag along with the duffle that attaches to it...stopeoverstore had it some time ago as a combo deal for $279-$299 for both. That is a nice compromise.

I have the 26" Strongbag and it's built like a tank, and just as heavy. Just checked my bag and with a standard load, no expanded pockets, and it weighed in at 37.5 lbs! So even though I would recommend it (despite the weight), I've been considering the 22" purdy neat with the clip on duffle, just to avoid checking it and losing my gear at the beginning a long trip... I just don't know if it would be enough room.
