Default Got to love that HK Wx...

Just to share the joys of an FDA...

In between cleaning up the flooding in my apartment, thought I would pull up the weather at HKG:

The latest aviation weather report at the Hong Kong International Airport issued by the Hong Kong Observatory at 01:30 HKT on 24 Jul 12
METAR VHHH 231730Z 09043G56KT 3700 R07R/1600VP2000N R25L/1300U R07L/1400VP2000U R25R/1000V1600U SHRA FEW010 SCT018 26/25 Q0983 TEMPO 11050G65KT 1500 +SHRA FEW006CB SCT016=

Then I made the mistake to look at the HK Observatory...

Just had the scariest taxi ride of my life going from the airport to Kowloon.

Commercialed in on an Emirates A380 but my company neglected to make car service arrangements for me (of course)....so off to the taxi line. After a short 2 and a half hour wait for a ride, I finally got into a taxi.

The cab was getting blown all over the road, tree limbs everywhere, and somehow the driver still managed to send text messages while behind the wheel

Not fun. There were a lot of trees blown over in the city.

I deviated into HKG last night. Line for the taxi at the airport was 300+. Took the airport express train to Kowloon to find a Q of 150 waiting for taxis, as all the bus services have been shut down. Alert level 9. strap in.

Just got into HKG myself on the Big D. Only had to hold about 15 minutes and the winds were 140/18. Got on the ground and we were number 19 in line looking for a parking place. An hour later we were parked at a remote pad.

But the good news was that we made it, nonstop from DTW. It was so hot in DTW that a 747-4 going to Nagoya and a 777ER going to PVG had to go out light loaded and made a fuel stop in ANC. What a deal for them!

I had to use one of those Medallion systemwide upgrade certificates you get if your a Platinum or Diamond flyer. Bought a M class coach ticket then did the upgrade.

If it were in the gulf we'd have evacuated 2 million people.

The chinese just string up tarps and carry on.
