I for one generally disagree with Wetpish and Borismud and usually no longer have the wherewithal to banter thru this format.....but...in this case I happen to mostly agree with them.

I generated the question to Z during the calls q/a session as follows:

Follow on question regarding ABX staffing ATLAS a/c and the union program.
How will it be applied? ABX Seniority? Or presently furloughed or employed?
Why is it open to employed (at ABX) persons vs. those who are currently on furlough. In other words, should it be limited to only those who are on furlough.

Those on the call heard the answers. The only one that remotely makes sense is *if* Atlas will only accept those current and qualified. If that's the case, then it (IMO) should only be make available to those persons once they are furloughed....not cherry picking people who are employed today, and without a furlough notice.

The real concern I have is the way that Z seems to be collaborating with Atlas management to cherry pick the more desirable (read as current and qualified) members. Of course, 1224 cannot dictate hiring practices to Atlas, however, they can demand some equality if they are going to participate. It is a win/win situation. It sounds like Z. is trying to arrange a way for ABX pilots to migrate to Atlas in seniority order.

Of course, Rick Z and his buddies seem to have forgotten that there are a couple hundred ABX pilots who have been furloughed for years. The EXCO only seems to only care about those on the active list. Maybe they have already made deals with management to sacrifice those who are furloughed. Of course, the furloughed pilots can still vote, at least for a little while longer.

I think Z. and his buddies are salivating about the hope of getting rid of the recall list even more than Hete.

I will assume the pressure is greater now, due to some recent internal issues. Of course, I will blame the "Teamsters" for all of this. The Taft-Hartly Act of 1947 disallows a "closed" shop. Atlas, and everyone else for that matter, can hire whomever they please, provided that the person agrees to be represented by the IBT. The fact that the Atlas EXCO came to an agreement with the company to give preferential interviews to 1224 members should be applauded. But then again, I will blame the "Teamsters", because quite frankly it is easier than getting the facts.
I agree that Atlas Management/HR can screen in or out who they wish. I just don't think it is ethical for the 1224, ABX EXCO to be involved in ANY form of pre-screening. Especially in light of the behavior we have seen from the current EXCO regime.

These guys (Rick Z. and his cohorts) just can't resist an opportunity to try to manipulate the process. This is infuriating. They can't help wanting to turn a good thing into a corruption.

Just send the names to Atlas. Don't try to control/manipulate this process.

The Nifty Fifty are just trying to help out their friends. What's the problem? Is it not good to have friends in high places?

Like I said, the previous agreement was between the Atlas EXCO (wanting 1224 interviews) and Atlas Air (needing highly seasoned 767 pilots to compensate for relatively green captains). I guess that Atlas could have gone somewhere else for these people.

I dont have a problem with Atlas screening their applicants. I think it is a violation of fair representation for the ABX EXCO to be acting as a pre-screener.

That's a real shame. Sucks to have your business farmed out to the lowest bidder doesn't it.

Apparently that is/or has been the case in the previous contracts.

And then there are times when a company that goes out of business is replaced by one that has a higher pay scale!
