What's REALLY funny is, there's a story that Delta is using Atlas for training and really appreciates the quality we are providing them!

Questions for the Kalitta folks. What exactly is an IRP? Does an IRP rate the same pay as a FO? What is the crew lounge on your planes like?

I have read through the thread, but I was still unclear about these.

The IRP is the international relief pilot. At Connie he is the third or fourth guy in the cockpit. He does the walk around, checks the freight, makes the coffee and fondles the captains balls when needed. The get paid the same, as typically the FOs rotate between flying and IRP positions.

I think you may be mistaken thinking there is a crew lounge, there are bunks with old dirty sleeping bags and pillows to sleep on and some old business class seats on the upper deck. The only thing that is loungy is occasionally there are some old dirty playboys lying around.

Enjoy!

One man's trash is another man's treasure. Other than the lack of clean linens (which will hopefully be addressed soon) I think the upper deck is very very nice. Great catering, nice kitchen and comfortable business class chairs. Other than first class it is the best ride in the industry.

Indeed it is....I just got a chuckle out of the "pilot lounge" comment.

What is wrong with the catering? I would agree that some stations are better than others but I find it all acceptable. For Example: I may not like the heavy German frozen meals, but then they have the chef salads to go with it, so I eat those and a sandwich. ANC and ELM have catering you can personally order. Sam and his cohorts have done a great job upgrading the catering. Sometimes it is nice to have been raised poor and with 9 brothers and sisters. You tend to appreciate things as they are.

So all FOs are IRPs, and all IRPs are FOs? Or is it a senority deal? Can you expand further on what you meant when you typed "typically the FOs rotate.."

I thought the catering was pretty good while I was there 11-14, especially out of Liege, Amsterdam, and Leipzig, ANC rocked too, I understood that not everybody grooved on the JFK catering, but I loved the Eggplant Parmesan. : )
