Default Atlas Scheduling

When I jumpsat with y'all one of the FOs was showing me her schedule and she worked it to where it was 8/6 as opposed to 17/12. Obviously as a potential FNG there wouldn't be a lot of choice as to what I would get awarded. How long would it take someone to be able to hold that type of schedule? Or is it more a personal preference and thus not all that hard to get ? And lastly, does where you are based have any affect? Thanks

A lot of times those split line schedules go somewhat junior. A lot of commuters want the 17 day straight lines so they only commute once.

Good to know, thanks. When they fly you back home is that on your last scheduled day or the next day i.e your first day off?

It depends on when your last scheduled operating flight is and whether it's finishing in your base. If you get back early on the last scheduled day you probably have time to get a flight home that day. On the front end of the schedule you can almost always plan on traveling on a day off if you use gateway. The company will only buy you a gateway ticket that gets you in place in time to have legal crew rest for your first scheduled flight. The time required for gateway travel is on top of your original awarded schedule. That's why a lot of commuters like the 17 day straight lines, they only have to commute once.

The exception to all this is if your first or last operating flights are not going through your base. Then your schedule is built to deadhead to/from your base within your original scheduled days and you can change your schedule to commercial directly to/from your home and never see your base.

For example, a lot of the CVG lines get back very early on the last Z day of the pattern so commute home is generally the same day. Most HSV patterns coming back from Europe get back later in the day making it harder (damn near impossible) to get a flight out that day. I prefer the shorter trips in CVG. In ANC the shorter trips would probably suck as you lose up to 4 days on the commute because of having to head up there twice. The age old wisdom of living in your base definitely applies here despite the convenience of gateway travel.

Was that a CVG Seven Six? I've seen some of the Seven Six bid lines that were broken up a lot.

Apologies. That was a 74 outlook.

While we are on topic, humor me with this. If I got hired as a junior 767 guy in CVG, please speculate on what I'd expect to see for the first 6 months. If something resembling week on week off with DHL flying in NRT or coast to coast DHL flying is possible then that's a good deal for me. Somewhere on the other thread I saw schedules like that. Also it's 200 miles or farther for a gateway right? It's also buried in the thread and I can't find it anymore, the 'rents live about 195 miles away from CVG.

Yes I know the schedules change many times and duty is a magical mystery tour (did it 2 jobs ago and it was actually pretty fun most of the time.)

Thanks again for any useful info and hoping to bail the sandbox for Atlas!

So if I live within 130 miles from my base, say JFK, but I'm closer to PHL, and my first leg is a DH, would scheduling change my DH to be out of PHL?
