Default Headsets in jets

Question/Opinion:

Do the low profile headsets (i.e. those that are just ear buds or just sit on the ear) work well in citation type aircraft. I'm wanting to replace my full headset that covers my entire ear with something lighter and more low profile but I'm concerned about excesive noice getting through.

Everyone at my company save one captain uses either the Telex 750 or the similar Plantronics. They seem to be industry standard as far as I know.

I worked for a company that flew X's and a Bravo. They had the sit on the ear type of headsets and they worked great. From what I remember the Citation cockpits weren't noisy at all.

Telex 850 works great in the Sovereign.

Any on-ear Telex or Sennheiser will work fine in a straight-wing Citation.

The lack of speed helps keep wind noise low, but IMO they're still plenty noisy down low due to the WS bleed shrouds and ANR helps take a bit of that wind noise away.

Our CJ2+ came from the factory with Telex 850s and they work very well; in the Citation II I used the same Sennheiser 25KAs I flew the CRJ with.

I use the BOSE headset. Works great and does cancel the noise. A bit pricey, but at the end of the day... it's worth it.

A Bose is a bit overkill in a straight-winged Citation...but I wouldn't fly our Cirrus without one!

I've used the Telex Airman and similar headsets in 6 or 7 different jets and never had a problem with any of them. I would imagine the 850 would be quite nice.

I use a Telex 750 in an Ultra and II. I fine the Ultra louder than the II due to the faster speeds and have to wear earplugs under it. Still beats wearing the big clamps though.

I use the Bose QC2 with a U-Fly Mike. Works great.
