Anyway, in general, I don't have a huge problem with the AF/KLM JV. I know we aren't going to fly to all the former French colonies and the JV gives us some global reach which is good for the company. And to a degree good for us.

We don't control the business plan though, except through section 1. Section 1 is delta pilot jobs. If the company wants to expand delta international flying, I'm on board...totally!!! The problem is they want to outsource delta international flying, to which I say NO.

My greatest heartburn with the current DALPA guys is that they were okay with that. Not only okay with it, they were giving it away at best...and at worst we were paying for it to be taken. I'm okay with paying for someone to take away my trash. But, this is our treasure. Pry it from my cold dead fingers.

These DALPA yes guys have got to go. They are too detrimental to my career and livelihood...and I pay them. They're fired as far as I'm concerned. I don't care what the NMB or justice league of America says. Some things aren't negotiable.
Give me your honest opinion. If we set up a Shanghai hub like AMS what do you think is reasonable and achievable for our percentage of the flying verses China?

It depends upon where that flying goes.

NRT-PVG 50% plus

USA-PVG 80% plus

Internal China...I wish.

My sense is the company would have other plans.

Sailing,

We need upside protection - not downside protection. Downside protection is worthless in the long-run. If the last 4 years proved anything it proved that the company will not fly money losing routes "just" to honor our contract.

See Klondike Bear's thread ref: JV settlement. It couldn't possibly be any worse for us.

By the time this grievance rolls around again next year we should have a new team in place at DALPA.

Then we can negotiate a real solution.

The $30 million settlement was obviously done just to make the issue go away.

They just wanted to clear the deck for the TA. I don't think we'll roll over quite so easily next year. We'll have some people in power who actually believe in scope clauses and will hold management to the contract.
Just a couple days ago...

Funny how the numbers turned out about like I have been posting. All the talk about hundreds of jobs lost was wrong. I still can't understand how anyone could come up with some of the numbers posted here from a 1.5% shortfall. It also as posted looks like the company will be in compliance and above 48.5% in 2016.

"The bottom line is the $30M in damages was a settlement but one that was favorable under our own damage theories and calculations while taking into account the risks inherent in litigation."

What were the damage theories? What were the high and low end assumptions and how were they reached? Why is there no more detail about the negotiations?

I'm talking about how dalpa forgave the company for ignoring the contract.

And then dalpa let them off the hook by wiping the slate clean. None of the last four years count toward a future grievance.

Yes. Read that again. And bend over. And send in your DPA card.

P.s. As to your crowing about how many jobs it cost: I don't trust dalpa's numbers. They were determined and/or approved by Harwood. I trust Sleepy Ed more than I trust Harwood. At least ed is honest about his agenda.

You read that email and that is what you took away from it? Do you even care if we fly international? I think you would be happier at Southwest.

He would be happier. And make more money. And get better vacation. But he could only take the job if he could somehow continue to work against the betterment of DAL pilots.
