For what it is worth - I anxiously awaited a call for a class date. Went to dinner with friends and Delta left a message at 7:45 on a Saturday night. The Delta folks work hard! Could not help myself, called back Sunday afternoon and took the next class date.

So, if you are waiting, keep your phone on.

They do most of the calls at night when they think that they can reach people. Some go out during the day, but the majority are sometime after 7:00 PM seven days a week.

Just got the call today (Sat morning)...about one week after the "cleared to train" email. Interview was 22 Aug.

He said first avail class was 1 Oct. FYI...Someone earlier had said they would be taking a holiday break in Dec, but he mentioned that there will be one class in Dec as well.

I know the training dept preferred no classes starting in Nov/Dec. A very reliable source stated they would probably only do a class then if the 22 MD90s from china were coming sooner rather than later. Anyone in the know heard something new about those airplanes??

Haven't got the training date call. Interviewed 20 Aug. Ok to Train email 31 Aug. Talked to a guy who interviewed with me and he got the 01 Oct date this AM (Sat). Strange a 22 Aug interview got the call before me. Hope to get a call tonight from the USAFA v UofU football game.

Gretzky:

I was in your shoes. When I asked, the answer was that Delta will match the candidates to the mix of the class. There is a reason for the mix. At the time, I did not understand, but now I do. It does help to have a mixture of 121 and military in the class. Each type of pilot learns from the other and fills in the blanks.

Certainly I do not want to re-start the whole civillian versus military debate. All I'm saying is that the crew concept begins when you walk in the door and if someone has the right answer when you need it, you'll be happy. It isn't who's right, just what's right.

For the rest of my career I will see the 30 numbers between me and my friend who interviewed after me, but there is a reason, and it is Delta's operation to run. They have been at this a long time and know what works well.

In ref to the 737 SLC spots - the quote above is not entirely accurate. They went to class seniority #'s 2,3,4 and the last one went around # 10 (I forget exactly on that one) So, I would NOT exactly say that they went slightly above middle. I would say that they went senior. For reference I was early in the -88 slots.... They say NYC is beautiful at christmas time.....

Talked to a few in the hiring last week. If they are allowed to they will hire at least 60 a month for the next few years. There will be classes in Nov and Dec. They need the people.
