There's some tongue in check to PD's post I'm sure but...
The reality for applicants is that Delta is the last major of choice and arguably below some national airlines with quick upgrades or a better hourly rate. My advice would be to look at all the variables that matter to the individual.
Corporate culture is no longer a plus for Delta.
Pay is lacking.
Retirement is lacking.
Work rules related to sick and vacation are lacking and under further attack.
The only industry leading metric we have, profit sharing, is under attack.
Trips are getting worse and reroutes and staffing issues are increasing.
I think flying airplanes for a living is great but right now there are a lot better places to go for the "career airline job." My advise would be the same as PD's, just not worded the same. Delta makes a good practice interview or plan B for a year. If you end up staying you will do alright. However, judging from the approach management is taking, it will be frustrating and miserable for some time. There is nothing keeping pilots here if they are offered a job at UPS, FedEx, United, American, or Southwest. Career earnings will be higher elsewhere and that's a fact. I would encourage each new hire to find their fit because opportunities like this are rare. Perhaps never before seen in the lifetimes of us already entrenched in our decision to work at Delta.

If Delta is actually having trouble attracting qualified pilots, they can fix it without ALPA having to negotiate for it. Basic economics.

So what. Theres truth in what he posted. Its harsh but true.
Your response is to recommend getting a pocket protector and work at best buy or get a job as a shovel leaner on a construction crew? Seriously? He has professional flying skills! The world is our oyster right now! We are raking in billions! Why are we approving concessions?
The market high water marks are well know for what we do. Delta lags every single one of them.

I'll take what I have seen so far with 44%.

So what? I paid my own rent when I got hired, just like everyone else who was hired by Delta. Why would I want to blow a dime of our negotiating capital on hotels and free uniforms for noobs?

Your negotiating capital is growing as our association continues to sell what little we have left in our contract.
The AIPs is a total bust, but none of that affects you either so you will vote yes to a self funded contract with little to no gains, good for you!
Welcome to the best airline in the world with the best pilots and employees, but sorry you will have to stay in some crappy apartment for your training probably being run by guess who RUBE or maybe not RUBE but some other pilot/employee.
Just can't wrap my head around the mentality of the above post.

You must be such a pleasure to fly with. Paying rent and paying for accommodations during training are two different things.

He basically said, "screw the new guys...I got mine." That's what I'm guessing nohat is having trouble getting past. And attitudes like his are what the company hopes give them a 51/49 approval for a self-funded contract....But at least you and RUBE will have gotten yours. Screw the others!

Most tier 1 and 2 guys are like that Most 1 & 2 guys believe they are white collar management types. That is why we are getting duped at each level. The more tier 3,4,5,6-12 we get, our union and contract will become better.
