What sick leave oughta look like....
There was a time when sick leave was easy and uncomplicated. For all those who insist we NEED voluntary verification, there was a time when there was no voluntary verification. We just called in sick. There was a chance we might be asked to verify long term illnesses.
For one of our past contracts....
SECTION 14 SICK LEAVE
"14.D. Normally, the company will not require proof of illness from a medical provider for absences of less than seven (7) consecutive days. A pilot is not required to state the nature of the illness to crew scheduling. However, discussions of a general health nature with a pilot's immediate supervisor (Chief Pilot) are permitted."
Simple. Concise.

Here's the moral of the story on Sick:
1). We sold them verification in C2012 because some small number can't work well under the honor system. They didn't anticipate people doing it voluntarily. Too bad for them. Now we're selling it to them again, but we're doing it as part of a package that addresses economic terms, PS, RJ's, 23.G.5, and a slew of terms for $3B.
The Nestor clause in TA1 made it possible to voluntarily verify anyway, but the rolling verification windows were tough. The new clause is worse, but the windows better.
2). At the end of the day, we're still going to get five weeks of work under the honor sysem, no questions asked. Five weeks.
