Default Topeka, KS

Had a fellow pilot introduce me to Forbes Field (FOE) in Topeka, KS last weekend. I had never been through there myself.
It is an old AFB - nice long runway and wide taxiways and a TON of ramp space and basically not a single aircraft there. On the north side of the field there seems to be a KS ANG unit flying what looked like KC-135 R and Q models (I thought all the R models were gone). Only saw a few other military aircraft, a Cessna 421, and a Omega tanker came in while we were leaving.

We turned through the Millionaire FBO who were very friendly and gave prompt and efficient service. The lineman even came in and asked us about our fuel load since the airplanes that looked a lot like ours that were in there just before us took a lot more gas and he wanted to make sure that he hadn't shorted us on the gas.

The highlight though was the small place to eat just around the corner from Millionaire inside what use to be the old terminal complex. I grew up in Oklahoma and know good BBQ when I taste it - but after having the ribs there on Friday I thought of them all weeekend and couldn't wait to have a 1/2 slab of them on my way back through there on Sunday! The dinner came complete with potatoe salad and baked beans with a drink too.

So......if you find yourself in northeast KS and are looking for a no-hassel turn - try out MILLIONAIRE at FORBES FIELD (FOE)

As a fellow pilot, you know I must really like it since I took us about 300 miles out of our way to stop there... both ways
