Here is a little taste what is like to be associated with the usair east pretend union called usapa. I post this so our brothers at carriers with real unions have an idea of the despicable tactics of the east pilots, especially on labor day.
America west pilots are under a complete assault forced to pay dues to a union who uses those funds to sue the west and blatantly refuses to represent the west members at every turn. The following letter was distributed to the east pilots over an incident where usapa officers refuse to even visit their biggest domicile and the one's that do show up are ordered to say nothing.

"Several days ago USAPA EVP Gary Hummel announced to the President and Vice President his intention to attend the August 31 PHX domicile meeting. During the discussion that ensued Hummel was reminded that there was a plan in the works for all of the Officers to travel to PHX in the near future to meet with the pilots there. He was also informed that the preparation that was to precede this meeting was of paramount importance as the Officers have an absolute obligation to ensure that the legal effort surrounding the seniority battle is not compromised in any way whatsoever.

After the conversation it was understood that Hummel would not attend the PHX meeting, that he would follow the plan for all of the Officers to meet there, fully assembled and fully prepared. Therefore President Cleary and Vice President Mowrey were stunned to learn that not only did Hummel travel to PHX to attend the meeting but that he was also accompanied by Secretary Treasurer Rob Streble.

If you have seen any PHX crew news videos or videos of past trips made to PHX by USAPA Officers you have witnessed the extreme level of naked hostility and stubborn determination exhibited by the west pilots. This is such a well known phenomenon that it boggles the mind that any National officer would blindly attend a PHX domicile meeting off the cuff with absolutely NO PREPARATION and virtually no support. It is doubly perplexing that they would do so in blatant disregard of the counsel they received.

With the recent rulings from the Ninth Circuit Court and the subsequent dismissal of the Addington case you can be damn sure that the pilots in attendance at the PHX domicile meeting were **** bent on exploiting any opportunity to damage our chances for ultimate success. They are sure to have been well prepared and well coordinated. Questions would be asked and every answer recorded for future use. Absent any planning of their own and lacking any participation from USAPA legal or the Merger Committee Hummel and Streble had no chance whatsoever of avoiding serious damage to our cause.

They went to PHX fully intending to attend the meeting completely ignoring the counsel of the other officers and USAPA Legal. However after a strenuous effort to bring them to their senses they reluctantly agreed not to attend. Unfortunately, still failing to recognize the dangerously precarious nature of their excursion, they stated to the PHX Chairman that they were ordered by the President not to attend.

That is an absolutely perfect example of how carless their decision to go to PHX unprepared was. Nearly as problematic as it would have been for them to wade into the trap that the meeting represented is now the reaction of the PHX Chairman to Hummel’s and Streble’s proclamation that they were ordered not to participate. We are building momentum towards a victory in the fight for a fair seniority integration but the battle is hardly over. The very last thing we need is to hand the opposition ammunition to fire at us. Yet that is exactly what Hummel and Streble did. This behavior is so egregiously irresponsible that we should all be incredibly alarmed and outraged.

We must remain absolutely disciplined as we near the end of this fight and we cannot afford to allow their actions to go unchecked. Call your representatives, call every BPR member and compel your fellow pilots to do the same. Attend the BPR meeting the last week of September to voice your concern in person. Hummel and Streble need to be reprimanded for their blunder and convinced to avoid any further such activities. This must be done now before they are allowed to do damage that cannot be repaired."

Has anybody seen the 22-min video for this new procedure?

They characterize it as the best of both procedures (Delta & Northwest). I disagree. I think it's the WORST of both.

The good part of the Northwest procedure was that you could promptly leave the gate, start your engines, and proceed to the runway while the performance data was being collected. Expeditious? - yes. Possible overload for the F/O? - yes. Good and bad.

The Delta procedure, waiting for the WDR at the gate ... Expeditious? - no. Possible overload for the F/O? - no. Bad and good.

Now we've taken the bad part of both and combined them. It will not be any more expeditious because we still cannot taxi without the WDR (unless forced to move). Either sit at the gate and wait for the WDR -or- pushback and hope you get the WDR before you have to taxi. Now we've created the highly expensive possibility of pushing back, starting engines, and waiting for the WDR. In addition, now we have the incredibly awkward and disruptive prospect of trying to negotiate with ground control to STOP the aircraft in order to perform a checklist. Can you imagine having to do that at some of these busy airports?

"O'Hare Ground, Delta 438."
"Go ahead Delta 438."
"We need to stop here for a moment while we perform a checklist."

Yeah, right!

I think we're going to burn more fuel with this new procedure and it will totally negate whatever advantage they thought they were gaining.

For instance, in scenario #1 in the training video, the crew gets the WDR during the pushback. They start the engine. After the engine is started and as the waveoff is received, instead of taxiing (as we have been doing), they sit there longer, load the performance data, and execute the "Performance Checklist" ... all with the engine running.

I timed it. It takes them nearly 2 minutes from the time the Captain gets the waveoff until they call for taxi. 2 minutes with the engine running.

What difference does it make to delay pushback until the numbers are entered -or- delay taxiing until the numbers are entered? They are both delays. One way or the other, you're going to have to wait. But in the latter situation, you're waiting with the engine(s) running.

Also, in the video - in my opinion, the Captain is far too chatty. I hope this is just a technique item. I've been telling my F/O's to use their good judgment on what to load into the computer off the WDR and to put a checkmark on the line they used, for my quick reference. I compare what they've checked to what they've loaded. If it looks good to me, we go right into the checklist without a bunch of extraneous and repetitive chatter.

So much of what is wrong with the airline industry is that it has to put up with passengers like this. AA needs to counter-sue for wrongful litigation and make an example out of this opportunist.

American Airlines Passenger Sues, Says She Was Traumatized

A woman is suing American Airlines saying the emergency landing of a plane she was on has left her emotionally scarred.

Jewel Thomas, of Bellevue, Washington, was a passenger on American Flight 268 when the Boeing 757 ran off the runway and skidded onto grass at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport, in September 2008.

"That day changed my whole life - it changed my whole world," Thomas says in a lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court in Seattle. "This is one problem I can't solve."

The plane was flying nonstop from Seattle to New York when there were electrical problems. The suit alleges crew tried to troubleshoot for several hours until key systems began to shut down.

After cabin lights went out, passengers were told to prepare for a rough landing and many started praying, Thomas says. She says she used her cell phone to leave messages for her children to tell them she loved them.

The aircraft sustained only minor damage in the emergency landing. There were no injuries reported among the 185 passengers and seven crew members.

Thomas says in the lawsuit the plane should have been diverted sooner, and accuses American and the two pilots of negligence.

She says since the incident she has suffered from mental and emotional problems, is no longer able to fly and is on unpaid disability from her job at Microsoft.

Thomas says even the sound of a plane engine sometimes makes her "freak out."

The amount of damages Thomas is seeking was not specified. American declined to comment on the suit.
