Air Force to cut 3,700 airmen in 2 years - Air Force News, news from Iraq - Air Force Times

"The drawdown is back.
Less than two weeks after announcing new incentives to keep airmen serving in undermanned career fields, the Air Force late Monday announced it needs to cut 3,700 enlisted airmen and officers in 2010 and 2011.
Driving the cuts are better-than-expected retention rates that could leave the service above its authorized size of 331,700 active-duty airmen by the end of 2010, the Air Force announced.
Among enlisted troops, the Air Force is targeting those who are retirement eligible and those with less than 14 years of service.
For officers, the program will encourage colonels and lieutenant colonels to retire early. The service is also cutting back the number of new officers it plans to commission during 2010 from Officer Training School and ROTC."

First we pay guys to get out in 2007, then we recall guys, now we aare going to "ask" O-5/6's to retire. Unreal force management.

A lot of people on here ask about getting hired, I'm wanting to know about surviving UPT and not washing out. Is someone like my self with a 3.0 for my degrees, CFI, in school for my A&P, prior service, pretty good AFOQT and PCSM scores and for the moment single, likely to make it successfully through UPT and earn my wings? What are some things that I can do to assure my survival if I'm hired with a unit? Hard part is getting hired, but it's a little harder making it through if I'm correct. Thanks for any info, and I apologize if this has been asked before.

I am looking into maybe signing up for the guard. I am a furloughed regional pilot. Anyone have any information on what units have C-17, 130, 135 or KC-10s? What are the odds of getting a guaranteed flight slot?

Thanks in advance for the help

I have heard of a guy that was up for his initial board at year 16, second board at year 17, had all the points for a good 18th year, but was given a separation date prior to his R/R Date, so he had to get out (no continuance). Is this normal, do 17 3/4 yrs and then shown to the door? Just seeing what you guys think, and no it was not me. Thanks

There were the usual C-17s, but today, there was something that looked like a smallish MD-80 and something else that was vintage-like with propellers. Both were flying low and I could see the wheels down. Didn't see any bombs attached or any blue chunks fall off, thank goodness.

Had to close my coffee shop today for annual judicial training in Seattle. Since the weather was so bad after lunch, I ducked into a bookstore to browse around a bit. There was a book on all the different kinds of fighter planes ever made and flown. Of course, I leafed through the pages looking at pictures and of course, stopped to read about the Hornet.

It says the Hornet is so versatile that "with a flip of a switch" it can go from a fighter (presumably the "F") to an attack jet (presumably the "A"). What on earth kind of switch can do something like that??? There must be a difference in fighter and attack that I know nothing about.

What do I know about the plane; I just know a certain fella who used to fly it. ;) Say, maybe I should ask him!
