And then I got to wondering why do I need to supply a complex plane for my initial CFI checkride anyway.  Besides the faa telling me to supply it, i dont understand why.......they dont tell me to supply a tailwheel or a high performance aircraft??  But I can give instruction in those?  If i have those endorsements.<br />

My question arises from a situation where I have a CFI i know who i like, but does not have access to a complex aircraft.<br />

I have not found anything that says i need to log complex time with an instructor.<br />

I have to have an endorsement on the Areas of Operations of the CFI portion of part 61, which doesnt say anything about a complex aircraft?<br />
 <br />
Without scouring the regs, my position would be no.<br />
 <br />
I have my complex endorsment from my commercial certificate, and besides having to supply a complex plane for the CFI ride itself, I dont see where or why i would have to log complex time (outside of the requirments for the commercial certificate) for the CFI practical endorsement.<br />

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div>As a new Private pilot, I've been trying to figure out the regulations on logging time, and it's a bit confusing. I've done some research and went though FARs, but just wanted to clarify some things for a peace of mind.. So,<br />
<br />
1. When flying on an IFR flight plan with a CFII in VFR conditions  - do I <b>log</b> PIC, or do <b>act </b>as PIC? ? Do I log dual received as well?<br />
2. When I'm under the hood - do I log PIC time?<br />
3.When flying actual IMC - can I log PIC if I'm not yet instrument rated? (I assume I can't but just to make sure)<br />

4. Difference between acting PIC and logging PIC is not quite clear to me. Who has the final responsibility for the safety of the flight? If it happens that we bust Class B or something like that, who gets in trouble - me or CFI? <br />
<br />
5. Then, when it comes to sim.time - I know there is only a certain amount you can log. BUT does it count toward <b>total time</b>? Can you log sim time as PIC time?<br />
<br />
6. and finally, is there a better way to correct errors in logbook other than crossing out or white out? I used to get Liquid paper in green color but apparently it's been discontinued.. :(<br />

The Flight was $150 Bucks to fly out of Republic airport in Long Island New York.  I fly a Cessna 172.  The freelance instructor told me his fee is $40 bucks and to expect to pay for dual instruction about $185 - $190 is this a normal price for dual lessons in Long Island New York? is there room for negotiation.  Ive seen on some sights cessna for 120 bucks.  I assume the instructor is getting if for cheaper that what is advertised on a website to the general public.  I think $185 $190 is too much and I dont really believe his fee is $40 bucks if this is the price.  I want to negotiate, but at the same time understand that this is his bread a butter and its a business.  <br />

I &quot;ran into&quot; one of their head guys.  And for unmentioned reasons he wants to talk with me.  He knows I'm currently instructing full-time, but goes on with why Gulfstream is a good choice.  Starts rambling on and on about how instructing isn't for everybody and they are simply just another &quot;option&quot;.  <br />

Now he said &quot;instructing isn't for everybody&quot;  but in all honesty if you cant explain a maneuver to somebody or if you can't explain an instrument approach procedure, or give tips on landings, which is all instructing is really. Sure you can argue that instructing takes a little more than just that. but if it's THAT hard for you... stay out of an airplane for your sake, and my family's sake!<br />

And half of my retarded students are trying to go to Gulfstream.  I am blue in the face trying to explain to them how they are screwing our industry in the long run.  Undercutting pilot's and paying for a job. Don't try to tell me you are paying for an SIC type and then get &quot;compensated&quot; for your work.  YOU ARE PAYING FOR A JOB!!! PEOPLE ARE GETTING FURLOUGHED BECAUSE OF YOU....</div>

My initial instinct is to study the &quot;aviation instructor's handbook&quot;, the AFH, IFH, IPH, FARs, ACs, etc. and teach myself to be a CFI.  Ironically, however, I know that my own learning style and schedule are not necessarily compatible with unguided bulk study, so I was wondering if there might be a publication, or series thereof, that would &quot;bootstrap&quot; me in a little. <br />
<br />
I've looked at the Jeppesen manual, and it's certainly not something I'd mind having.. but I want to know what else is out there that people find useful for someone who might not have the time or focus to start at 14 CFR part 1 and read through.  <br />

PS. I did actually look through a bunch of old threads on here, but I couldn't really draw a conclusion, except that if money was an issue and time was not, the free online publications were the best choice.</div>
