Default Manhattan, KS

Hey Everyone,

I'm a rotorhead moving to the Manhattan, KS, area for about a year and then hopefully jumping ship to the airlines. I've got all my flight ratings and my CFI/CFII/MEI and am looking for part-time fixed-wing jobs (flight instruction, sky diving jumper pilot, etc.).

Can anyone here recommend a good flight school, aero club, skydiving company, CAP detachment, and the like?

Lived in manhattan for 5 years. have fun lol.

KSU has a flying club at MHK but they don't do much. KSU pro pilot program is about 75 miles away in Salina but I don't think they hire part time instructors. GATTs is on the field, but that's a small shop.

It's very devoid of aviation. Once again, good luck.

Thanks for the vote of confidence.

Looks like I'll try to get involved / instruct with the flying club. Hopefully it's been a bit more active than when you were in Manhattan...

Have you seen where it's at on a map?

It's a nice town. I liked living there. The aviation opportunities are just limited. If you don't mind driving to KC/Wichita or Omaha, there are some flight instructing opportunities there.

ETA: There is a jump operator/skydive club in Abilene and a pretty sizeable operation with a king air to the northwest of KC. They can be pretty busy.

I was raised in the area and assume that you're based at Ft. Riley. It's been a good while since I've spent any time there, but here's what I know.

There is/was an FBO at KMHK called Kansas Air Center that is/was owned and operated by a good guy named Ron Nordt. They do mostly charters and some part 61 flight instruction. Maybe drop in and see if they have any positions available. They offered me one as a CFI back in the day, but I was busy flying somewhere else.

With Kansas State University being in town another idea is to put some flyers up at the student union or place an ad in the college newspaper, The Collegian. It might drum up some students.

Good luck and welcome to the Flint Hills!
