Nah . . . I'm in the Midwest, though. Good luck!

Good luck to you too! If all goes well maybe i'll see ya @ nationals

NIFA stands for National Intercollegiate Flying Association, and every year they host a flying competition for accredited colleges that offer aviation.

Apparently Dowling College won the competition at Schenectady.

Parks College NIFA region VI.
1st in nav
2nd and 3rd in preflight

but alas, being the only ones with Diamonds we sucked in landing competitions and didn't go to the nationals.

At least we have a full year to practice right? right?

Either way, until our school gets a 152 we will never be in the top three in the landing competition and therefore, will probably never go to nationals unless we get top in everything else. Funny thing is, our school owns 1 152, we are just not allowed to use it. Its just sitting there gathering dust and spider webs.

for a school with an endowment close to $1,000,000,000 you would think they could take care of this, but no. We are stuck with DA20s that can't fly into IMC as primary instrument trainers.

Yes. The school had tampicos but sold them and got the DA20s (basically like changing from a Toyota Tundra to a Toyota Prius). Don't get me wrong, they are good airplanes. Reliable and cost efficient. But they should not be used for primary instrument training and they definitely should not be used by a school to compete in NIFA competitions. Those things glide like crazy (hence why they are so cost efficient).

Can you imagine filling an IFR flightplan and not being able to follow ATC instructions because we cannot fly into cloud? The students don't get actual IFR and ATC gets mad at us.

Diamond really screwed up with not making the DA20 IFR certified. At least offer it as an option.

Pretty sure you can't file IFR then...

That does suck though. Sorry to hear that.
