Default Texas State Technical College

Anybody ever been to or heard anything about this schools flight program? I already have a CIS degree. I have GI BIll and the only way I can use it is if I pursue a degree while doing flight training. I have about 14 months left of benefit, and I think if I play my cards right, I may be able to get a good portion of my ratings paid for. I wouldn't be starting until at least fall 2010.

Just curious to get some of your opinions about this place.

I received all of my ratings there as well as instructed there in college. Its a good school and it has a great location for flight training. Good luck and thanks for your service. Send Multipilot a message he works there.

I'm the Ass. Chief there. Great school. We're have a new Aviation Director, retired USAF, who is getting us out of this slump we've been in over the past several years and is taking us in the right direction. We're getting ready to demo the building we're in now and plan on breaking ground on a $13M aviation building this spring. Just took delivery of a new Redbird simulator which will eventually replace the Frasca 141 FTD. A new 172 with Nav III suite is in the works for FY 2010. We also currently have a great group of ground and flight instructors.

Hey Chief, can I offer you a "t" ?

I've heard great things about TSTC too. Located on a former AF base without commercial traffic, it's a great place to train. Being a state operated school, it's not designed as a profit center like other "commercial" flight schools. As I recall there was a limit to how much they could charge above cost of training delivery - not sure if that's still the case.

Are they tearing down the tower then? I need to find some time to come check things out when the new buildings and planes start to show up. Wheres the new aviation building going to go?

LOL... sorry. It's kind of become a joke among the flight instructors. Yeah we pretty much price our aircraft to break even.

Yes, new tower and new building. It's going to be right on top of the old one. Our current building is slated to be demoed early next year and ground breaking on the new building shortly after. In the mean time they are moving the ground instructors to a nearby building and all the flight instructors will go to the old ACT I hanger offices. The new building is going to be two stories so as to accommodate all aviation departments under one roof. They are also going to attach a hanger for maintenance and for regular aircraft storage. They will lease out the current maintenance hanger and t-hangers. It's going to be nice.
