My advice would be to go to all of the local airports around your area and just start hangar knocking. If you have any free time just hang out at the airport and bring some business cards and tons of resumes. Get your name out there as much as possible no matter how annoying you think you are being. Seems like independent instructing is the only way I've had a chance to get any hours lately.

I am sure you know of the supply and demand laws. If there is an abundance of CFI's, you might have to work at a lower rate to get a job. Right now I need experiance and I am not going to sit on the couch, watching the Opra show waiting for the magic job man to knock on the door. I am looking for a job, that means in this economy that I will have to do some things that aren't what I prefer to do but what I need to do.
I have been through rough times before and I know what it is like.

So you chill out and watch for jobs on the net while I am out there looking and knocking on some doors. It's all good brother. I pay my bills and I got to do what I got to do.

I'm with Rascal. If you walk into every office saying "pay me whatever you like", you set yourself up to be paid as close to minimum wage as possible. You've worked hard for your certificates, and saying "I don't care where it is what they pay or what they treat you like." doesn't help you, me or ANY other aviator. So yes, you can continue with your current thinking and lower the bar, or demand a fair wage, and help move the industry forward.

I made business cards, started a website and knocked on doors...it's rough in this job market for sure. The Savy CFI book has some great ideas about getting the CFI career off the ground.

No brother, its not all good. After you get the experience as a CFI to move up the rung..you'll start focusing on the next job..for which you'll need the experience (turbine, ect). Will you care then how much they pay or how you're treated? Where does it stop?


Times are tough..but don't trade long term for short term gain.

So many pilots should have their medicals revoked for their incredible myopia. If he was just shooting himself in the foot with that attitude, it wouldn't be so bad, but that attitude shoots us all in the foot.

Please, we all are going through tough times right now, but the tiny improvement you see now when you work for $2 an hour won't be worth it when 10 years down the line, you work for $200 an hour LESS than you deserve.

Again I am not going to sit on the couch and wait for Rod Machado to come and knock on the door. I read a lot of bad post on this company and that company, I really dont care about all that nonsense. I am a grown man and I can decide what I think is fair. I am not going to work for free, but if I have to take a couple of bucks less and put up with a little crap so what. It's called work for a reason.
