my name is kapya, 19 yr old lady with a mad passion for aeronautics and with little or no money to pay for tuition fees.am currently juggling three jobs in the hope of raising money to finance my ppl. i have the genral knowlegde and am well read in terms of aviation. i have written to companies but to avail. applied to the airforce but they wont recruit and has been so for 2 solid years.
questions is am i being naive for trying to pursue a career that i hold so much passion for and who in this world would consider giving this girl a shot at it ? am losing hope as days go by .

You probably want to post this in the regional airline thread instead of leaving the career thread. You will probably get more replies. Also, not sure how to advise someone who lives in South Africa Good luck!
Not even sure that the regional section will have some answers for her. I think you should try the flight training section for tips on just how to get started or get into the “game.”
Then you should also give the foreign section a try as well, maybe they might have some insight on some of your questions regarding South African flying or perhaps some info on some companies that have cadet programs in your country.

i found out that if you can get hired as a airline pilot and get furloughed, the usa will fund you money to continue training..ie wia stuff. Is this putting the horse before the carriage? try the question in the flight school section or what people posted above.

i am a 19yr old chic and really want to pursue my passion of becoming an airline pilot but cannot not well due to a reason that many will relate to to,finances !!! yes so here i am juggling three jobs in the hope of pursuing my ppl. i ve written to a number of organisation requesting for some form of financial assistance but to avail. our national airforce won't recruit and ve not done so for 3yrs in a roll.
am slowly begin to lose hope and that drive to see my self be what i passionatley want to be. well with nepotism,corruption and or sorts of obstacles in my way i am still going.
question is who in the world would be willing to give me a chance by taking me ob board and sending me to school? am i being naive and a little big headed for trying to reach for something that is a little way beyond my reach?

Anyway... in all seriousness. I would probably try to find some way to get out of south-central Africa. I really dont know the political/military climate down there, but depending on what is going on in your country, you might be able to easily leave for the US, eastern Europe, Canada, etc. From there you can apply to work, become a citizen, get loans, flight train and then join the many of us trying to make it in the airline world in an upside down economy. Good luck. You, myself and everyone else really need it.

I know that DCA offers a financial aid program (if you're willing to relocate to the United States to complete training, which will incur many additional expenses). Make sure you do your research before choosing a flight school or university - places like DCA aren't for everyone...
I come from a third world country as well (Sri Lanka), and there's pretty much 2 ways to become a pilot. Go to Europe, U.S., Australia etc. or join the Air Force. Usually, those who acquire their ratings in another country come back and work as Cadet pilots for the airline, and eventually become first officers. Really, there is no other way since the cost of living is way too high and unless you are ridiculously loaded, learning to fly is just out of the question. When I was there, I was strongly thinking about the Air Force, but I was fortunate to come here and it took me about 8 years to actually begin. So it's not easy either way. Good luck. Like some of the above posters said, your best bet is to look overseas, and perhaps you might want to do some research (talk to some people) in finding out what opportunities are available. Good luck and if you have a true passion for aviation, don't give it up. Be patient, keep researching, keep trying, the doors will open eventually.
