Default Best source of practice exam questions?

Hi there,

Just wondering what people think is the best thing to use for examination practice for the instrument / commercial knowledge tests.

I know the FAA have all the questions listed on their website, but with no answers or explanations. Are there any websites that present the questions in a useful format? Any books perhaps?

Thanks for any help.

ASA and Gleim manuals ...

ASA: Home Page

Gleim Publications

Available everywhere.

Also some online training ...

American Flyers - Flight Training

Dauntless Aviation

And I'm sure there are many others. I prefer the books, but many like the online training.

I've gone with the Gleim Manuals since my private and with the Gleim software for my CFI and CFII (and will probably use it for the ATP). The nice thing about the software is that it simulates the testing environment.

For online, in addition to the ones rotorhead mentioned, you might also try http://www.exams4pilots.org/

From my experience, I would say the ASA books are the way to go. You'll pass just fine with the software, but I think retention will be less. As far as downloading the questions for from FAA, and looking up the answers yourself? I did it recently for the AGI written. It took a lot of time, and I only scored 89 (my norms for the other writtens have been much higher), so I would not recommend that route.

I have to agree, My instructor back in the day told me to use these and when you could pass 3 of them in a row (at each rating level) above a 85%, go take the written. I have to say it worked, I did all my writtens first time pass, and scores between 89-93%. The best part is they are totally free, just have to sign up for a username and password. I definatly would recomend this to anyone..Good luck in your search.

I send my students here:

My Written Exam - FAA Written Exam Test Preparation for Pilots

I also have the rule of 3 practice tests at 80% or better to get an endorsement from me. So far (fingers crossed), my students have a 100% pass rate on writtens.
