Weather in general (some 'remote' fields may require a 'one way in' and opposite way out approach/landing)... want to make sure you aren't going to have to takeoff with a 15kt tailwind from a short strip. Field conditions if it's your airplane (props are expensive to overhaul). Aircraft weight...low enough to give you performance needed. Engine performance is good (no super-hot oil temps/or low pressures on your way in). If it's really remote... general wind indicators (lakes nearby, smoke, etc)
Some aircraft may be able to land in a short strip...but you should make sure you can take-off over whatever obstacle height (is it 50ft or 75ft,etc)
Figure out your accelerate/stop, etc
Follow POH... (T/O autofeather arm, prop sync off, auto-ignition, etc)
