Anyone know if theres a chance US pilots can score a job with ELY. I herd, because they are expanding and now under private ownership, that they might accept civilian pilots.

well my dad is Israeli. i was born here in the US but spent lots of my vacations(2-3months at a time) in Israel. I like over there. And i like ELAL. They have a nice fleet plus I've been thinking of going to the IAF(not sure). Like my dad im going to have dual-citizenship(Israeli/US.)

If youre jewish, you could probably you get your israeli citizenship and go from there? They do take nonmilitary Israeli pilots with low time (at least this is what some guys working at the airport told me last time I flew into Tel Aviv). So pretty much you have to meet those two criteria (Jewish, and Israeli citizen).

I was invited for an interview but decided not to pursue it.I was born there but got all my ratings here in the states and have lived here for the past 11 years.its posible you may get an interview...remember,you will have to convert your licences on your own and probably go through a MAJOR backround check...Israeli style.

I do not believe that it is a requisite for Israeli citizenship for one to be Jewish.

Taken from the Israeli Immigrations website:

Acquisition of Nationality by Naturalization

Adults may acquire Israeli citizenship by naturalization at the discretion of the Minister of the Interior and subject to a number of requirements, such as:

> they must have resided in Israel for three years out of five years preceding the day of submission of the application;

> they are entitled to reside in Israel permanently and have settled or intended to settle in Israel;

> they have renounced their prior nationality, or have proved that they will cease to be foreign nationals upon becoming Israeli citizens.

The Minister of the Interior may exempt an applicant from some of these requirements.

However, as it states above, one cannot be posses Duel-Citizenship.

You will need israeli citizenship (not a problem if your parents have one), and israeli license before you can get into ELY.
Converting FAA to Israeli license requires all 7 written exams and a checkride.
ELY do take civilian pilots. Their mins are 1000 PIC, but that is the min, you will have to come up with more. Getting references from ELY pilots is helpful too.

EL AL is definetely not open to foreigners, sorry. For one thing their pilots are all IAF pilots who have finished their 8yr tour. They do not even pay attention to non IAF pilots, let alone foreigners; this despite the fact that they also haven't hired any new pilots in several years. Also, EL AL isnt exactly known for their stellar working conditions nor their maintenance record. The only thing they are known for is their security (best in the world) but beyond that theres a lot of friction at the company and with it being a governemnt owned company theres not much room for argument.
Sorry to be the realist here, but unless youre an IAF pilot you have no chance. And becoming an IAF pilot isnt exactly an easy task with a 90-98% dropout/failure rate from without question the most intense pilot training in the world.
Consider it two cents from someone who has held dual citizenship their whole life with 2 cousins currently in the IAF and another relative at EL AL.
