UN Pilots
Not sure if this belongs under the "foreign" forum. Two weekends ago, my girlfriend and I went into New York. We ended up walking to the UN buidling on 42nd Street. Anyways, while we were there, I looked on the UN computer, and it job catagories. I found the one for air operations which includes pilots.
I tried to research this online, and even emailed the UN about this. So I am comming here looking for information. Is there any information about how to fly for the UN? License requirements (including specific ICAO country), Time(s), and what the lifestyle is like? I'm just trying to satisfy my curriosity about working as a UN pilot, not that I'd like to fly for them. Thanks for any info.

Many different companies do this, and one of them is Voyageur Airways out of Canada. Don't bother calling, the requirements are Canadian citizen, Canadian right to work, Transport Canada certificates, Canadian this, and Canadian that. The impression I got from the lady on the phone was if your grandpa wasn't born in Canada, then 'don't waste my time..'

Wow,
that air serv.....looks pretty rockin!
Does anyone here know how it is to fly for them? QOL? Maintence? People you fly with? Benefits?.....etc....?
-Also, are they solid on their 1500pic requirement?
Any information would be appreciated!

And yes, they are very strict about the time requirements.

The word is maintenance and people are really good...QOL, well, it's Africa man! However, I've met several folks who flew for AirServ and they loved it..not a retirement job but a good adventure for a couple of years. AirServ has a good reputation for keeping you out of the "active" areas.
The National Geographic channel has a show called "Bush Pilots" that featured one of their Caravan pilots flying in the DRC....right where the current fighting is.

Google is your friend. Blog written by an Air Serv pilot
I did some flying in the Sub-Sahara area with the USAF. I had a good time and I wouldn't mind going back for a year tour to build hours and see more of the world.
