Default Easy Jet?

"The British crew of an EasyJet plane who helped subdue an angry passenger threatening to open the cabin door at 30,000ft have been praised by police after the jet made a safe landing."

found this little tidbit in that story...

"It was at this point that the man began to try to open the main door to the cabin. Had he succeeded, the instant decompression would have caused the plane to disintegrate."

Wow... that's all I can say...

I heard this play out on guard frequency on my way to Amsterdam the other night. Scared the hell out of me and made me think further as to what my crew and I would do should we have been in the same unfortunate situation.
The Easy cockpit crew was very calm as they described the situation to ATC on 121.5

As long as you can get they guy trying to open the door to assume room temperature before he gets the door open. Then the problem solves itself. Checklist complete.

And that's just how ignorant today's press reporters are and unwilling to check facts before they print a story.
The Straight Dope: Can you open an airliner emergency door while the plane is in mid-air?
