I got to fly on both, and the difference was night and day. At Austrian (btw, why is the name in English on the side of the plane?) it was "Good morning, may I help you with your bag? Have another danish, I know you're nonrev, it's okay, here's the USAToday with the UGA score from yesterday. Another pillow? Thanks for flying with us!" Lufthansa was more like "Your bag is too big (same bag), it is too heavy, it will come on a later flight (it didn't)." Too bad, it was like the difference in customer service between Georgia and Jersey.

Lufthansa will reduce the workforce, including management, at its CityLine subsidiary by 20% (500 positions) by 2010 and cull 14 CRJ200s from the regional's fleet of 72 aircraft, an LH spokesperson confirmed yesterday to ATWOnline.

The company hopes to make the cuts without layoffs and will try to offer displaced workers positions elsewhere with Lufthansa Group.

Last year LH placed an order for 15 CRJ900s for CityLine and took over Swiss International Air Lines' order for 30 E-190s (ATWOnline, April 18, 2007). LH subsidiary Air Dolomiti will take the first E-190, with the distribution of the remaining aircraft unannounced. CityLine transported 7.3 million passengers last year, approximately 10% of LH's total.

Good luck and let's hope no furloughs.

Does anyone know the Lufthansa crew hotel in Shanghai? Are they still at the Hilton?

I have to agree with embflieger. I flew with my wife to Vienna on Austrian Airlines. It was an excellent service. We were very impressed.

And the pilots made announcements in totally unaccented English, everybody was very gracious. They'd even let me have the occasional newspaper at the gate in IAD. Too bad they're done.
