Yes, you've been FIRED !!!! But, like British Airways, you can keep working for no pay.

I'm guessing that Capt BB thinks we need more warm bodies for the upcoming Dakar run. Don't know, and he's on rotation. Didn't ask Capt RH before he went on rotation.

I need some golfers to show up. I'm getting tired of golfing as a walk-up single. I thought all pilots golfed, but not here.

You're probably right on the time issue. I was above whatever the number was, so I'm not sure. I think this is right:

$3500 - under 1500 hours
$4500 - 1500 - under 3000 hours
$5500 - 3000 hours or more

I didn't know we were hiring more CRJ900 FO's? Do we have some recent deserters, or am I getting fired?

*Also, I understood that 3000hrs. was the min. total time req'd for the top pay tier. I could be wrong, but I highly doubt it.

You know things are bad when a CRJ FO in Africa earns twice as much than they do in the richest country in the world. ***. Roger Cohen and all his cronies need to die already

That's after Nigerian taxes. Potentially you would be tax exempt in the US (see IRS form 2555 for details).

Also, paid overnight pay at $70 cash, and the company pays the hotel and food at the hotel, $200 each day for recurrent training (FO's and CA's both do 6 month recurrent), however you're left to pay the food/hotel.

And how many US regionals offer 28 paid days off every 3 months?

The same number that require you to be away from your children, wife, country, 1st-world health care, etc. for 56 days every three months...

Perhaps hard to imagine from the US, but there are people who were born and raised in Africa who are working in Africa. Some of those work under the previously described terms.

Thanks for the information! I sent off an email to the contact you mentioned at Sigmar to inquire about things. Maybe it will lead to something! All the luggage I am tossing is getting too heavy!

Actually you know it's bad where there are 4 pages of responses for a contract job in Nigeria. You better like being locked up in a hotel. What's the going rate for American heads Tony?

The job is not a contract term, like many. It's more like the contract Jet Blue pilots have, I believe.

I do know that one person somewhat associated with the company cost $100,000 USD to get freed within the past 2 months (not american). I don't know what the going rate is for expats. Kidnapping primarily is in the southeast corner of the county:

"PORT HARCOURT, Nigeria, Feb 6 (Reuters) - A nine-year-old Nigerian boy was freed on Friday, a week after gunmen kidnapped him and killed his sister as they walked to school in the southern oil city of Port Harcourt, security and industry sources said........
More than 200 foreigners have been seized since early 2006, most were released unharmed after a ransom payment."

I did feel "locked up" for my first few months here. On this rotation, I brought my golf clubs, and that opened up a whole new perspective. There are some very economical, nice golf courses. We go to the beach. Clubs. Lots of time at the swimming pool. On the internet.

Here's the first hole tee at Ikoyi Club 1938, Lagos Island:

What is the market out there for pilots on that side of the hemisphere? Do they really need to bring 3 spoiled lazy Americans? I would imagine a whole bunch of European pilots looking for jobs in Africa.
