A chap I know, who is a US citizen and without Egyptian background, was a check airman for an Egyptian charter carrier about a year and a half ago. Back then he was on the MD80. He since moved on after his contract was up. He was recently invited back to join the 737 program.

If a country's carriers has a need to fill pilot seats, they will drop the naturalized citizen requirements, if however it serves their purpose. Look at India. They were to terminate the contracts of expat F/O's this year and send them packing. I don't know the status of that situation.

Good luck ONCALL!

At Air India the expat F/Os are being offered extensions to their contracts. However, there are no more expat F/O contracts being offered. Air India is still offering Captain contracts, but the DGCA has said all expats have to be gone by 7/2010. Everybody knows that is saber rattling and will not happen w/o planes being parked, so they will have expat pilots flying for sometime into the future.
