You have to question working for a company that flushes a pool then hires a month later..that alone makes me believe they will find a way around upgrading you in order and other QOL issues that might abound, I dont think they will continue to be (the be all end all) that every expat wants to fly for anymore, they have become just another foriegn airline, just like dubai had become just another tourist city

The hiring processes of airlines abroad is very different than what we are used to in the west, the first mistake is to consider that there is such a thing as a "pool" there isn't, not like we know it. When you are informed that you successfully passed the interview process only means that your application went to the next step and that you are being further evaluated with the results of the background check and they grade all the applicants that have passed up to that point and select the ones that scored the highest overall score during the application process and those get the job offer, having passed the interview doesn't mean in any way shape or form that you have the job it only means that you are on the "semifinals" of sorts, the first thing you need to do when applying for an international job is to forget your concept of things like "hiring pool" it doesn't exist. Individuals that have been sent letters saying that they no longer are being considered it is not that they got flushed from any pool or a job offer have been retracted, it simply means that you didn't make it to the finals.
While I know what you've described is pretty much the norm with overseas carriers, that wasn't what EK did. At least not initially anyway. They spent around 9 months telling us that it would be a case of first in, first out. Then, when the fit hit the shan in DXB, they decided to award points to the poolies and give class dates based on that.
I don't have any hard feelings, they're going to do what suits them best. It would have been a good opportunity, but the natives at EK are not a happy bunch right now and if there's one place I don't want to be unhappy, it's the sandpit.
I've never heard the first in first out thing, but this is EK.
They have always taken who they want when they want out of the pilots that have passed the interview, if more pilots are interviewed after you were told you passed those pilots may be deemed more suitable and as such hired before you.
Please note that nothing is ever promissed IE A/C type, time to upgrade , accomm's , vacation in summer etc.
there is 2400 pilots here so dont be coming for a guick upgrade, 7-10 years, no A/C coming in 2010/2011
A large number of pilots have left in the last 6 months or so. their reasons are their reasons.
Some have gone to Etihad as FO's and DEC's, KAL as FO's(think that one is bad move)
Ed is leaving in the new year - do your home work on his past time here and come up with your own conclusions.
hy fatbus can you please confirm that you're not allowed to be interviewed by emirates if you're an etihad pilot or viceversa?
how could those pilot move to etihad if they were emirates pilot?
is it true the movement from one to each other is not possible or is it just a rumour?
I'm very happy with my employment and conditions right now
Kenny I understand your point but on an international gig having passed the interview means nothing (even with claims to the contrary) for us here in the USA and some places in the EU (not all of them) being placed in the "pool" as we know it is an assurance of employment unless something catastrophic out of their control happens (a la 9/11) this happened to me with one of the legacies here in the USA, abroad you are not an employee until you sign the contract and I believe that this is something that individuals seeking employment abroad should be well aware of
"They have always taken who they want when they want out of the pilots that have passed the interview, if more pilots are interviewed after you were told you passed those pilots may be deemed more suitable and as such hired before you."
This is the case with all contracts abroad and not only for EK
There is no such policy between Etihad and Emirates with regards to hiring each others pilots, or for that matter any other airline in the UAE eg. Air Arabia. No one cares which airline you are comming from. So far, I've met two Emirates guys that have moved over to Etihad. Funny how things change as just a few months ago it was the other way around jumping from Etihad to Emirates. Rumor, is that Etihad has a few hundred applications from Emirates guys, mostly FO's.
A whole bunch of guys put in their app, interviewed, got the job and were just flushed because they were in the pool for 18 months due to no fault of their own.
And now they have to pay their own way back if they want to re-interview. Sounds like a great place to work.
