Default UN flying in Africa

I may be going to work for Safair in South Africa soon. On a different thread I asked if anyone had experience with them. Plenty of folks looked at the thread but no comments. So to widen the search pattern..

Anyone have experience flying for the UN's World Food Program in Africa?

Looking for first hand, unbiased info on conditions, schedules, malaria, conflict areas, great bars in Malawi, etc.

Gracias,
ELLS

Hi!

I would try posting this on pprune.org. It has the most international pilots on board.

All of sub-saharan Africa, basically, is a big threat for malaria. I was taking malaria drugs prophylactically for about 6 months. Just stopped, as went to local Dr. and he said it is NOT good to take them long-term. If you are visiting for weeks, or a couple of months, it is OK, but not long-term.

Flying in West Africa is much harder than East Africa. West has TONS of TStorms, rain, low ceilings, etc. East has better ATC and some radar, plus longer runways/better airports.

DRC is about the most dangerous flying.

Thanks!

And I checked pprune.org out. A search for Safair turned up over 200 threads, so I'll get busy reading.
