This is such a salient article.
The chilling thing is that I have been in a discussion regarding Xanadu pilots (yes, I do know a few personally), their inability to 'fly' an aircraft, their lack of understanding with regards to procedures other than coupled ILS's. . . and, this is the chilling part, specifically when they will run an A330 off the runway at YBCG.
At least they knew to go around. I hate to imagine a situation, and we still have these situations arise (note to MPL pundits), where they HAVE to fly the airplane.
Gold Coast has a not on the Jepp by the way that specifically mentions unstable approaches. I guess they read that part.
You'll excuse my frankness here, but it's just a matter of time before another airliner meets it's fate due to substandard piloting skills. A couple of A320's that I know of, plus the NG's in Africa; all perfectly good airplanes that ended in CFIT or unCFIT.
I have had conversations with punters, people I know, who say aloud that they will fly the cheapest airline no matter what. I always ask them if OJ thought what he paid for his lawyers was expensive, or laying on the slab they wished they'd gone for the cheep medical care. Makes them thin at least.
Airline pilots 'not equipped' to land plane
