Default Fracs Hiring Furloughed Airline Pilots?

So do you think the fracs are going to lean towards hiring the imminent furloughed pilots at many of today's airlines, especially the majors? Or will they stick to hiring folks that have a true desire to make frac flying a career?

They've hired furloughees in the past and will most likely do so in the future. Of course they would prefer to hire someone who is in it for the long haul and you might expect to see questions along those lines in an interview. However, what you'll find (and what has happened in the past) is many pilots decide not to go back once recalled due to QOL, great pay, no commute, better flying, not gluttons for punishment, etc.

Why go back to the bottom of the list of an unstable legacy again?

I have a feeling that after a couple years at a place like CitationShares or NetJets most furloughed legacy/major airline pilots won't want to go back.

The HR departments on all the Fracs (ok, maybe not FO) are swamped with highly qualified applicants, all wanting to be a part of the only growing, profitable segment in aviation.

So, put yourself in their shoes. Who would you hire????

someone who won't run back to the airlines, like most do when things turn around.

Last time there were big furlough's CS and NJ would not even interview airline people unless they resigned their senority numbers at the airlines. Most likely will be the same this time.

Netjets never has, doesn't now, and probably never will care about "resigning a seniority number." The don't even ask. They have hired hundreds of furloughed airline folks over the years, some of whom (though not many) actually went back to their airline (poor fellows).

After 9-11 I saw adds for all the major fracs on all the pilot hiring web sites that said if you were interested in their operation you would be required to resign your seniority number. I personally know several captains at NJ ( one is my uncle ) all told me unless people made that commitment they would not be considered.

In an interview, you would definitely be better off saying "I'm over the airline thing" but our management never "demanded" an applicant officially resign a seniority number. They figure the job would speak for itself and the new hires wouldn't want to go back to their airline anyway. And they've been pretty much right with one notable exception that I know of: About 2 years ago, a guy I liked very much with about 2 years in the company accepted his recall to Un-tied....er, United. Ouch!!!! He lives in Chicago and didn't want to commute. Poor schmuck.
