Why is the exhaust port not acceptable (Now obviously, if a guy had obviously chromed or polished exhaust ports, I wouldn't clip the ground line on there because of courtesy, but that's just me).

You aren't being an ass, honest questions, not attacks are appreciated in my book.
It's a known point on the Malibu/Mirage/Meridian/Matrix to clip the grounding wire to either main gear struts. As a pilot, an instructor, and a rep for my company who sells them, I explain and teach it to all of our owners/buyers of these aircraft the appropriate location. I would also expect the same from the fueling crews out there. I know there's a book out there that has fueling points, etc.. for each airplane(I saw it when I used to be at YIP AvFlight East almost every night as a freight pilot).
This grounding-point won't damage anything, it's unpainted and strictly intended for grounding during fueling. I honestly hate seeing grounding wires attached to exhaust stacks/nose-gear, etc... I know it's "acceptable," but I just hate seeing all the scratch marks etc... left behind on someone's new $1mil+ airplane
