FlyingBerc and Undrfly, The priorities right now i would say are Geographical location with NY/DC/BOS/ATL given heavy priority. This would probably be equally as important as the internal recommendation. There is no sim assessment in the interview process so someone vouching for you is huge.

There is no major hiring going on for west coast folks right now, however i wouldn't let that stop you from applying. Good luck!

Spicoli, none of that was an attempt at trolling. I asked fairly specific questions, and the safety questions were asked because those are real issues I deal with now. Sorry it came off that way. I value your opinions just as much as other opinions on here because it gives one the full spectrum of what one might find at XO. From the worst experiences to the best.
No worries. My concerns regarding rolling rest and red eye flights have not changed. Also keep in mind a lot of the X fleet was purchased from Netjets. I picked one of with 12K + hours on it, and a QS tail with a sticker over it, before it went to paint. Sometimes it feels like everyday is a struggle. Fleetwide MX issues such as flap deployment issues and pressurization outflow valve issues when there are low temperatures make even a simple trip a very stressful. Certainly not a "airworth-ness" issue but it still makes for very long days and I can't help but think that little issues start to add up safety wise. Best of luck.

How does vacation and PTO work at XOJET? I know of some operators that don't allocate any additional vacation because of the extended period away from work that comes with the 8/6 and 15/13 type schedule.

1-5 years, 1 week vacation. 5+ years, 2 weeks. Bid on vacation once per year, awarded based on seniority. 1 week of vacation gets you 3 weeks off. Several guys bid back to back rotations and take 6 weeks off during the summer. Sick time accrues at 5 days per year.

Company policy states that employees over 9 years get 3 weeks vacation, but that doesn't apply to the pilots, yet. There aren't enough guys with that kind of longevity to make any noise over it...for now.

I can't believe your union would accept 5 days per year accrual for sick leave. I hear they get 12 days sick leave per year accrual over at NetJets.

BTW, how much vacation would a pilot get at NJ after 5 years?

Just a couple silly questions for you guys that work there:

1.) Are the crews the same for the duration of the rotation or do they swap out during the rotation?

2.) As an FO do you get a SIC or PIC type? (im sure this is a dumb question sure to earn lots of comments)

3.) With the rolling rest situation it sounds as if having a beer with dinner is not going to happen...correct?

4.) If you are on the rolling rest (back at the hotel) are you tethered to the blackberry or could you say....go hiking or some such activity that puts you out of cell coverage areas. Kinda sucks just sitting in the hotel when there is cool stuff to do around. It does beat sitting in the pilots dungeon though.

As far as accommodations, the people I have spoken with say its usually a Hilton or Marriott property 90% of the time. If unavailable, they do a Holiday Inn or something..... this beats the hell out of a cargo board in the back of a 207 in Marshall Alaska or a guide tent on the tundra.

Thanks.

I don't think XOJet does "rolling rest" anymore. Rolling rest is illegal. XOJet knows this.

Pilots who allow "rolling rest" are putting their certificates at risk.

Sorry I can't answer any other of your questions though.

1.) Are the crews the same for the duration of the rotation or do they swap out during the rotation? Depends. a lot of the time you are paired with same person for whole week. My experience has been that I average two FO's (or even Capts) per week.

2.) As an FO do you get a SIC or PIC type? (im sure this is a dumb question sure to earn lots of comments) PIC type.

3.) With the rolling rest situation it sounds as if having a beer with dinner is not going to happen...correct? Rolling rest has been a sore subject. Hasn't happened to me but once in three years. Turned it down. The only time I will have a beer is after a flying day where I KNOW I have at least 10 hours rest.

Again. Rare.

We have a RON committee that is doing a good job trying to keep us in places like that. Again. If we are in a small town we have to stay where we have to stay.
