FlexJet Questions

FlexJet Questions
I have a few questions regarding Flexjet.
1) When upgrading, does the payscale move similarly to most 121 carriers, i.e.: if a First Officer upgrades at 5 years, does he/she move over to 5 year Captain pay (like 121) or does he/she move to year 1 Captain pay?
2) If upgrade pay moves one back to year 1 Captain pay, is this consistent with other fractional operators?
3) Are the payscales listed on APC accurate?
4) With additional aircraft types coming on board, are new payscales in place, expected, or being determined/negotiated?
5) Are you required to live "in-base" or is it like DPJ and Netjets where they'll simply airline you to/from your home to where ever the jet is when your rotation ends/begins?
6) Has "off the street" hiring begun or is it anticipated, and if so, when and what are "competitive qualifications"?
7) Are schedules 7 and 7, or 8 and 6, or other?
8) APC indicates that Flex has 80 aircraft. I seem to recall reading that they have a lot of aircraft on order. Have they begun to arrive? Are new aircraft for growth or replacement? How many aircraft are expected to be on property in 1 year/3 years/5 years?
9) Does Flexjet offer vacation? If so, how much and when?
10) Would you recommend Flexjet to a pilot friend?
Thanks for your time!

All of those guys (including me) were given the opportunity to interview when hiring was done in 2013. There are no "furloughed guys without recall rights".

Last I heard (subject to post-merger changes):
- Captains moved back one line when upgrading (i.e. 7 year FO becomes 6 year captain).
- You are required to live in the geographic area of your base (or get yourself there for Day 1). They will fly you to the destination of your choice if the cost is no more than flying you back to base at the end of rotation.
- Schedules used to be rotations of 4-6 days. The goal was an average of 15 or 16 days per 28 day bid period.
- There was 2 weeks of vacation paid when I was there.
I am too far removed to address the other questions.
As far as a recommendation, some one still there can tell you how many of the furloughees came back - and how many wish they had not. I did not, and think that was the right choice. There is a lot of dust there right now because of the ownership change. I am in a more peaceful place, which helps keep me stress free and happy.

There are still 5 guys that I know of that never received the call to interview again in 2013. One of them called and the office peeps had said that they didn't need to reach that far down the list to get the guys/gals they needed at that time. They also said that they would call again when hiring resumed.

• You move down one year from your current pay rate. Needs to be changed.
2) If upgrade pay moves one back to year 1 Captain pay, is this consistent with other fractional operators?
• Not to my knowledge
3) Are the payscales listed on APC accurate?
• Yes. FO pay now tops out at $420/day for year 9.
4) With additional aircraft types coming on board, are new payscales in place, expected, or being determined/negotiated?
• To be determined...
5) Are you required to live "in-base" or is it like DPJ and Netjets where they'll simply airline you to/from your home to where ever the jet is when your rotation ends/begins?
• You can live anywhere you want so long as you show up to work on time on day one. With nearly 50 bases now, it's easier to live in or near a base.
6) Has "off the street" hiring begun or is it anticipated, and if so, when and what are "competitive qualifications"?
• Was suppose to have hired last Fall, then in March, now maybe this Summer, so who knows? Flight Options pilots are still trickling over. Not sure how far above the minimum qualifications are needed. However, an internal recommendation is probably worth more.
7) Are schedules 7 and 7, or 8 and 6, or other?
• 4/3, 5/3, 6/4, 7/5, 8/6, or 8/4 (depending on your base) schedules are minimum pairings. Some schedules allow for more days off after each rotation. 7/7 goes very senior. Some months we have thousands of lines to choose from offering MANY different combinations of trips.
8) APC indicates that Flex has 80 aircraft. I seem to recall reading that they have a lot of aircraft on order. Have they begun to arrive? Are new aircraft for growth or replacement? How many aircraft are expected to be on property in 1 year/3 years/5 years?
• We're currently at 62 aircraft. Lear 75's and Challenger 350's are coming fast and furious. Two G450's in June, but you have to interview to fly those. Legacy 400/500's this Fall. Net 22 aircraft by year's end.
9) Does Flexjet offer vacation? If so, how much and when?
• Two weeks for the first three years, three weeks until year ten, then four. Each vacation is a minimum of 13 days off. You're paid for five days (Monday-Friday of a given week) with four days off before and after the paid five for a total of 13 days off.
10) Would you recommend Flexjet to a pilot friend?
• Yes. Despite the fear mongering from the union pushers.

Actually, there are guys out there that didn't get a chance or a call to interview. When asked about it, the company said that the positions had been filed and they would contact the others when hiring resumed.
