I my opinion rwy braking action reports are the weak link in the system and the FAA knows it but they will not mandate standardization. Last Sat night trying to get into KMKE was a perfect example. Before block out in KMEM, KMKE ATIS reported rwy MU values of in the neighborhood of 38, 36, 33, 21 at 2040Z which is fair ranging to poor. During crz the ATIS was reporting at around 1600Z 38, 38, 35, 34, which is fair but notice the Z times? They had dropped the poor report in favor of a fair report that was older? Asked approach for RWY braking report and told reported good buy a biz jet, before they had plowed the rwy. The county plowed the RWY but did not take any MU readings and we were next but they had plowed it. Cleared for the apch and after G/S intercept they decided to close the airport for further snow clearing procedures

, we went around and diverted to KMSP.
The FAA has strict guidelines for everything else but this!! It's time for the FAA to step up and demand that airport's publish standard and accurate rwy condition reports. Subjective braking action reports by a county vehicle, C172, lawnmower etc are not good enough when you are trying to stop a commercial jet in extremely adverse conditions.
